My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

For The Cats' Sake

MERLIN is in need of a full time belly rubber, and we know there's someone out there who can fill this role! What cat lover doesn't long to rub a super soft cat tummy, without it resulting in bodily harm? As you can see from the photos, MERLIN is happy to oblige, and although he takes a little to get over his shyness with new people, he is then happy to let you rub his buddha belly. This handsome panther is around 5 years old and he is the last of three cats we took in when their house burned down and their owner passed away What a terrible tragedy, and it's time for us to find our magical boy a forever home. He'd be happy as an inside or inside/outside kitty (which he was), and he does okay with other cats, but would be fine on his own, because that means more belly rubs...
If you would like to come meet MERLIN or our other cats, please fill out our online application below:

We do not have a fixed adoption fee at For The Cats' Sake, but instead ask for a tax-deductible donation to our group of at least $80. On average, we spend $200 to cover food, litter, spay/neuter, testing, vaccinations, flea treatment, deworming and any vet care or medicine needed. Adopters donate $80 or more, as they choose, to cover cat's expenses, and help our rescue continue to treat and find homes for more cats. This flexible policy makes it possible for people to adopt more than one cat or multiple barn cats.

CAT EXPENSES:
 Spay/neuter $75 to $150.
Rabies and FVRCP $50.
Test for FiV and FeLV $35.
Microchip $25 (adopter registers for life for $30)
Wellness check at vet $50.
Flea treatments and deworming $40.
Any additional vet care or medications needed.
Food and litter $40 upwards, depending on time of stay.

Our adoption process begins with an application which includes vet references and landlord permission for renters. Potential adopters are encouraged to visit the cats/kittens in their foster homes so they see them in a comfortable situation. In many instances a volunteer will deliver the cat/kitten to their new home to assist the family in preparing their home getting the adoption off to a good start. More about this rescue

For The Cats' Sake was founded in 2014 in response to a need for TNR in Rappahannock County, Virginia. Since that time, we have encountered many situations where there is no place for the cats to be returned. In other instances the cats are friendly or there are momma cats too pregnant to be spayed, or young kittens that are adoptable, but need socialization and foster care. Currently we have about 40 cats and kittens in foster care being prepared for adoption. All felines are Up to Date on vaccinations and tested for Feline Leukemia and FIV. Depending on age at time of adoption, they are also Spayed/Neutered.
