Check out our sister brand, Kinship, for vet chat, a nutrition calculator, basic obedience training, and (much) more. So you're never flying solo in this pet parenting thing.
This darling tiny 12 year old Yorkie/chi mix is a very special little survivor looking for someone worthy of her unconditional love and devotion.
She was surrendered to us because she was getting older, not moving around or eating as much, “seemed to be slowing down and probably time to put her down”. Her owners had NEVER brought her to a vet other than free rabies shots through the town, and weren’t willing to pay to bring her to a vet to be checked out but did ask if they could pay to get her ashes back if we had to put her to sleep. She had been vomiting for 2 days and was nauseous and dehydrated when she came to us, but happily her bloodwork didn’t show any major organ failure or untreatable issues. She hadn’t been spayed and had painfully rotting teeth… she had most of them removed during her dental, and she had the beginnings of a pyometra, a potentially deadly uterine infection. She’s so much better and brighter after her surgery, eating better and dances around for attention!
Hope has a very cute special little personality, wants to sleep right on your pillow at night and a loyal little lapdog devoted to her person. As per her chihuahua half, she can get nervous and snippy with new people approaching her but once she bonds she’s the most loyal lovable best friend you will ever have, and it doesn’t take long for her to bond. She’s under 6lbs, a tiny little portable pup small enough to take everywhere. She’s fine with other small gentle dogs and even was dancing around flirting with our unable-to-be-neutered senior Mashed Potato 🤣
If you are a senior dog aficionado who will make sure our special Hope is cherished and gets regular vet visits in her senior years, please email njwoof@cs.com to meet her in Northern NJ
Her care was expensive, but totally worth it to make up from years of lack of vetting and give her a chance at enjoying the next chapter of her life. Please consider a donation toward her vet bills… we already have several more little seniors scheduled to come in this week and get daily requests to help more 😩
Since COVID-19, we are no longer holding our Sunday adoption events until further notice, but we are scheduling meet and greet appointments with a specific dog or dogs at our meeting spots in Northern NJ. To streamline adoptions, all communication before, during, and after the adoption process is done through email only: we have limited volunteers able to return phone calls. Submit an application from our website www.secondchance.petfinder.com to speed up the adoption process and email any questions to us at njwoof@cs.com. Please check your email regularly for next steps. All our dogs reside in foster care in Northern NJ until adoption and we do not have a central shelter location. We are a small all-volunteer organization focused on rescuing local dogs from area shelters, as well as accepting some surrenders and puppy mill rescues.

We request that adopters fill out a pre-adoption application either in person at our adoption day or through our website www.secondchance.petfinder.com. This helps us make sure the animal's personality is a good match for your household. Adoption fees vary according to the dog's age, breed, adoptability, and how much we have had to spend in vet bill on them. Adopters sign a contract at the time of adoption, and the animal must come back to us if they do not work out in the home.
