About Tinsel:

Hi! My name is Tinsel, I am a pretty princess, and my foster family calls me Zora, which means: “dawn, a symbol of new beginnings, optimism and the start of a new day”. I am a 2-year-old, mixed breed female looking for the perfectly patient home for me. My fosters have a few guesses on my breed, I’ve been told I look like a Sheeba Inu, but my tail is straight (not curly) or a micro-mini-Staffordshire Terrier (I have cute little marshmallow cheeks) but it’s really anyone’s guess. I was tied to a pole in December with another dog here in Minnesota. As a result of being left in the snow in winter, my ears and heels were frostbitten but they’re still cute big ole bat ears and I’m all better now and the doctors I saw say I’m healthy and have healed up well. I am now eagerly and willingly learning how to be a dog in a loving home and how to trust humans. My current energy level is pretty chill, low to moderate, depending on who I am with.

When my foster family first picked me up, I didn't know what to think. I tended to scurry away if anyone tried to pet me. That first day, my foster mom sat on the floor talking gently and calmly to me for about an hour. That helped me decide that she was probably safe, and I let her give me some pets! I now follow her around wherever she goes, and my foster family lets me cuddle on the sofa with them while watching TV! I’m learning to trust men and usually cautiously watch foster dad, but when I see how nice he is to my foster dog brother, I climb up to sit with my paw on him so I can snuggle and lay on the couch too. I am sometimes spooked by loud noises or fast movements; I go to a safe space to observe until I feel safe and secure again. My family talks me through things like “the mixer will turn on now (turns on)” and “that’s the mixer, it’s okay”, so their reassuring voices help me stay calm and sometimes I am not even scared with that kind of guidance and support. Since I am still learning a routine and how to dog, sometimes it’s easier to keep my leash on even when I’m in the house.

I like to spend some time outside sniffing the yard perimeter. I have learned to potty and poop on command with foster mom while on the leash in the yard and am also left outside in the fenced yard to do business on my own. I tend to do business in the same area of the yard. My foster dog brother and I like to do zoomies & play too. I watch how my foster dog brother plays with toys and have tried playing and chewing on a few toys like a Kong, Kong rubbery Bone (yum, they even put peanut butter and treats in these for me!) and a rubbery toy Pickle. I am still unsure of stuffies and squeaky toys. My favorite thing though is to get pets from my humans. I've even been known to give them a kiss or two and licks to say thanks! I am learning that the world is not out to get me and this new life with guaranteed breakfasts, dinners, treats, pets and kindness is going to be something that I really enjoy! My foster family believes in me, 100%! I’m told that I am ready to be molded into the perfect dog and I will be the sweetest dog for someone.

A home with people committed to helping me learn how to be a happy house dog, continuing with learning my basic obedience (come, sit, no, off, eat your food, go outside/time to go potty/poop), potty training schedules, kennel training and building up my trust by using calm voices to help me develop my personality would be best. They call me sweet as candy and tell me that I am a princess. My foster family believes I would do well in a home with another calm dog to help me learn the ropes of this new life, but a home with another dog is not a requirement.

Will you be the right fit for me? Let’s meet! Love and Kisses, Tinsel.

Tinsel is fixed, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations for her age.

More about this rescue

Twin Cities Pet Rescue (TCPR) is a small, 501c3 nonprofit, companion animal rescue organization. TCPR does not have a facility and is 100% foster-based. TCPR rescues dogs, cats and small animals of all breeds; rescuing them from city impounds, puppy mills, and other situations of abuse and neglect. Once rescued, all animals receive veterinary care ranging from spay/neuter, vaccines, microchips, and basic testing to specialty eye surgeries, pet dermatology care, and various other specialty treatments. Once an animal is rescued by TCPR, it remains in a foster home until adopted, no matter how long that might take.
TCPR often rescues animals that are considered “less adoptable” by other rescue organizations, as they are often the ones overlooked and truly left behind; and in need of the most help. These animals might be overlooked due to their age, health status, special needs or breed. TCPR works to help as many animals in need find their furever families as we can, especially helping those animals that need help most.
