My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

My name is Elphie, short for Elphaba from the musical `Wicked.` I am ready to defy gravity! I was born outside, and I was raised in a foster home together with my sister Nessa. I love people and other cats; I have never met a dog but I am open to new experiences and nothing is gonna bring me down! My purrsonality -- I am adventurous, playful, and affectionate. When I`m worn out, I will lay on you or sit in your lap and purr. Other times I wrestle with my sister, leap in the air for any wand toy (everyone deserves the chance to fly!), and sometimes I`ll climb up a person to hang out on their shoulder! Consider adopting another kitten with me (maybe my sister Nessa - she looks a lot like me but you`ll definitely be able to tell us apart) so I`ll have a friend to release some of that energy. I can`t wait to pick you as my forever family!

1.
Submit Application

Review our adoption process and complete our new online pet application. If you need assistance, call us or visit our Adoption Center!

2.
Approve Application

If you have had pets in the past 10 years, we will do a vet check and we will check with your landlord or HOA that you can have the pet.

3.
Meet the Pet

Once approved, everyone in your home will need to meet the pet. Also, any existing dog will need to meet a dog you want to adopt.

4.
Sign Adoption Contract

We will ask you to sign an adoption contract and pay our adoption fee - a schedule of fees is on our website.

We have one Adoption Center at 1901 W. Ogden Ave., Downers Grove, IL. Please come in to complete our pet application or fill it out online and we will contact you to schedule an appointment to meet our awesome dogs and cats!

The West Suburban Humane Society (WSHS) is a volunteer-based, no-kill animal rescue that was founded in 1972 in the western suburbs of Chicago. WSHS now finds homes for more than 500 dogs and cats each year!

WSHS is 100% funded by individual, corporate, and private foundations donations, and has over 450 active volunteers! WSHS is caring for about 200 animals at any given time.
