My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Alright Chubbs, what’s the catch?
You lived in a yard in Flint from birth to two years old. Your first experience with life indoors was behind bars at the animal shelter. You stayed there for a few months before finally arriving in a foster home, a foster home that was prepared to an untrained, unsocialized, hot mess of a dog, and then you’re just… wonderful???
How do you know you’re supposed to poop in the snow and not in the house when you’ve only known “in the house” for a month? How come you’re so gentle and affectionate with children when you’ve never really met any? How are you such an easy peasy foster dog when you’ve been either chained or homeless your whole life?
Sure, it could be gratitude, after spending his whole life in the most miserable of conditions. Chubbs may be so thankful that he’s finally out of the cold so he’s on his best behavior. We can see glimpses of trauma from his chained past. At first he wouldn’t go outside without a foster mom joining him, as if he was afraid he wouldn’t be allowed to come back in. He also used to ration his meals and eat them slowly over days, as if he assumed it would be a week before another meal would arrive. He still gulps down water, as if he’s getting it while he can before it dries up in the sun or freezes into an undrinkable solid.
But we suspect that the truth is just that Chubbs is inherently good. He was born good, like most dogs are, even those on the streets, on chains, in backyards, and those who end up in the shelter. Chubbs is an example of the gift that canine companionship is to our human existence. Any dog can be a souldog, and Chubbs can be yours too. He’s just an application away.
Chubbs is 2-3 years old, and about 55 pounds.
