Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Meet Rico!
Rico is a 38-pound, 1-year-old Mountain Cur mix who is bursting with energy, affection, and charm. This happy-go-lucky boy is good with adults, children, and other dogs, making him the perfect addition to a fun-loving and active household.
Rico has a playful spirit and adores all kinds of toys. He’s already learned “sit” and “down” and is making great progress on his leash manners. While he’s still working on avoiding counter surfing, his treat motivation makes training a breeze.
This neutered, up-to-date-on-vaccines pup would thrive in a home with a securely fenced yard where he can explore, zoom around, and burn off his boundless energy. Fearless and curious, Rico loves to investigate his surroundings and would do well with another dog to play with or a family who enjoys outdoor activities.
When he’s not playing, Rico’s favorite place to be is cuddling with his people—he’s a certified cuddle bug who soaks up every bit of human attention. At night, he’s a dream dog, sleeping soundly in his crate without any issues. Rico is also mostly housebroken and LOVES car rides, making him an excellent companion for adventures on the road.
If you’re looking for a sweet, energetic, and loving companion who will keep you smiling, Rico is ready to meet you and become part of your family!
Our standard adoption fee is $375 cash or check and $385 credit card ($10 processing fee). . More about this rescue
We are a small 501 C3 nonprofit rescue located in Elburn, Illinois. In 2014, Safe Haven Dog Rescue became its own non-profit. We are licensed by the Illinois Agriculture Department.
The majority of our dogs and puppies are pulled from Kill Pounds and Shelters in Tennessee, Arkansas, and Illinois. We also accept local medical cases as often as our finances will allow.
Please take a few moments to read the stories about the dogs and puppies we have available for adoption. We disclose everything we know about the dogs, sometimes we know a lot often we know only that they were strays, thrown away on the side of the road, in the woods, or found in abandoned houses.
While we don’t always know their past we are certain that their future is much brighter.
We hope that you and your family are part of the future…..
