My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Korn, Peanut and Dale. three adorable Gerbils that are looking for some new places to dig. These adorable ladies are friendly and social - approaching you when you come to visit, but don't really like being picked up. They are independent girls and enjoy snoozing, playing and creating new hide outs in their enclosure. They have existed in the same home as cats - although not direct contact - and are unfazed.
Adoption fee for one gerbil is $17, each additional adopted at the same time has a discounted adoption fee of $10.

Fun Facts About Gerbils

We are very social animals and are happiest when housed with at least one gerbil companion-the more the merrier!!

We are diurnal which means we're awake for a good part of the day and boy, are we busy! We know how to find the inner toy in any object-a simple piece of cardboard becomes a game in our paws!

We use different vocalizations: squeaks, clicking, and high pitched grunts, to communicate with one another.

We live 3-4 years.

We enjoy small amounts of fruits, vegetables, unsweetened cereal, wheat germ, nuts and seeds as treats.

We enjoy the occasional dust bath!!

Housing requirements: Most housing sold at pet stores is too small for small pets. They are going to be spending most of their lives inside their cage; your housing must be as large as the below or larger (bigger is always better!) in order to adopt this pet.
2-3 gerbils: 15-gallon aquarium with wire mesh cover, 20 gallon aquarium if no cover
4-5 gerbils: 20-gallon aquarium with wire mesh cover, 30 gallon aquarium if no cover

Gerbils are a social species, meaning the company of their own kind is critical to their health and well being.
If there are two names listed together (eg Peanut Butter w/Jelly), that means that the two animals are a bonded pair of friends, and must be adopted together.
If there are more than two animals listed together (eg Peanut Butter w/Jelly and Toast), the group is to be adopted together. If there are 4 or more listed together, they can be adopted in pairs or trios - we just can't leave a single alone. Gerbil friends must be same sex, unless your current single is already neutered.

Got a single at home you're looking for a friend for? Contact Dakin to discuss whether your gerbil can be introduced to a gerbil or gerbils at the adoption center. Introducing gerbils can be tricky. If you aren't experienced in doing this, we can offer guidance. Please don't attempt to introduce unfamiliar ADULT gerbils to each other. Adult gerbils can be territorial and will likely view a new adult as a threat, leading them to fight.

If you're ready to adopt now and want to learn more about, meet, or adopt this pet, you can start the process in one of two ways:
