Check out our sister brand, Kinship, for vet chat, a nutrition calculator, basic obedience training, and (much) more. So you're never flying solo in this pet parenting thing.
Asha is a stunning brindle beauty with a heart as lovely as her coat. This sweet and affectionate girl is ready to find her forever home where she can thrive with love, patience, and understanding.
Asha is a clever pup who knows “sit” and is learning “wait.” She’s very treat-motivated, making her a quick and eager learner. She walks well on a leash and is working on reducing her pulling, though she can get a bit antsy and whiny when she sees other dogs. While she’s curious and polite with people on walks, her true joy comes from quiet strolls, especially in snowy wonderlands, where she happily prances and enjoys the magic of winter.
At home, Asha’s manners are excellent. She appears to be fully house-trained, with only one initial accident that was quickly resolved with a regular walk schedule. She does well in a crate when left alone but would much rather relax on a dog bed, sofa, or next to her favorite humans. Even when given the run of the house for short periods, she’s proven to be calm and trustworthy, often found napping where you left her.
Though Asha is initially shy with new people, she warms up steadily and reveals her loving and playful personality. She thrives on affection, cozy moments, and shared adventures. While Asha is a bit anxious in unfamiliar settings, she’s opening up beautifully with the help of consistent training, gentle encouragement, and, of course, treats!
Asha has experience with children (she did wonderfully with a 5-year-old in her foster home) but will need to be the only dog in her home. She’s not a fan of cats and would do best in a home without feline friends.
Whether you’re an active adventurer or a homebody, Asha can match your lifestyle. She’s happy to join you for a long walk or lounge on the couch for a cozy day in. If you’re looking for a loving and loyal companion to share your life with, Asha might be your perfect match!
Asha is currently in a foster home. To learn more or arrange a meet-and-greet, please email dogfosters@barcs.org to connect with her foster family.

Some animals get adopted immediately and their photos never make it onto our website—which is wonderful! If you don’t see what you are looking for, please visit our shelter to meet your perfect match today! Adoption fees are $75; however, we offer several adoption packages listed here. Our adoption hours are Monday-Friday from 2-6 p.m. and Saturday-Sunday from 11 a.m.-4 p.m.

Step 2: Visit our shelter during adoption hours (Monday-Friday 2-6 p.m. and Saturday-Sunday 11 a.m.-4 p.m.). You may also pre-fill our Shelter Adoption Application ahead of time online to save time when you are at the shelter. Your application will be processed after you meet the animal.
Step 3: Tour our adoption rooms and write down the names of animals that you would like to meet. A volunteer or staff member will help you meet your chosen animals to make a match!
Step 4: When you have selected the right animal for you, our Adoptions Team will run your Adoption Application for approval. Once your application is approved, you will participate in an adoption class where you will learn all of the details about your new adopted family member, including their known history and medical records.
What else to expect: Animals who are already spayed/neutered and past their stray hold (if applicable) can often go home with you the same day. Pick-up arrangements for unaltered animals and/or animals still on a stray hold will be made during your adoption class.
**Please note: Animals listed on our adoption pages may still be on stray hold and pending reunion with their owners, or have an existing pending adoption application.

More about this shelter
BARCS is a non-profit, 501(c)3 organization operating Maryland’s largest animal shelter and pet adoption center. We are an open admission shelter, granting refuge to every abandoned, neglected, abused, lost or surrendered animal that comes through our door. A staggering 30 or more animals are surrendered to BARCS every day. No matter what the circumstance, we do not turn away any animal in need of shelter, food, medical care and a loving touch. Yearly, this equates to more than 12,000 dogs, cats, kittens, puppies, and even wildlife and exotic animals that need care and placement.
