Malawi is a handsome and energetic 1-year-old pup who`s always up for an adventure! At 62 pounds, he’s still very much a big puppy at heart, full of curiosity and excitement. Whether it’s taking a stroll through the trails, exploring new sights and smells, or playing in the yard, Malawi is all about soaking in the world around him. He’s especially fond of squeaky toys and stuffies, chasing after them with boundless energy!
Malawi is treat-motivated and eager to learn, so he’s already making great progress in his training. He’s working on keeping all four paws on the ground when his excitement gets the best of him – but with a little guidance, he’s sure to blossom into a well-mannered companion. Though life in the kennel has been tough, Malawi’s longing for a loving home is clear. He thrives on companionship and would love to be part of a family that can give him the attention, affection, and adventure he craves. He would be the perfect addition to an active home where he can continue to grow, explore, and spread his joyful energy.

A dog’s behavior in a shelter can be very different from how they act in a home once they have time to relax. In the shelter, dogs spend a lot of time isolated in their kennels, meet new people constantly and are surrounded by other loud barking dogs, new smells, new sounds and new routines. This environment can keep their stress levels elevated for days or even weeks, which can cause them to act out in ways they wouldn’t in a home. Because of this, what we see in the shelter are just observations and not promises of how the dog will behave later. A dog’s true personality often shows up once they’ve had time to settle into their new home–that’s why fostering and adopting is so important!
The following are the observations of my challenges in a shelter environment:

Step 2: Visit our shelter during adoption hours (Monday-Friday 2-6 p.m. and Saturday-Sunday 11 a.m.-4 p.m.). When you arrive, you will first be asked to fill out our Shelter Adoption Application with your information. You may also pre-fill our Shelter Adoption Application ahead of time online to save time when you are at the shelter. Your application will be processed after you meet the animal.
Step 3: Tour our adoption rooms and write down the names of animals that you would like to meet. A volunteer or staff member will help you meet your chosen animals to make a match!
Step 4: When you have selected the right animal for you, our Adoptions Team will run your Adoption Application for approval. Once your application is approved, you will participate in an adoption class where you will learn all of the details about your new adopted family member, including their known history and medical records.
What else to expect: Animals who are already spayed/neutered and past their stray hold (if applicable) can often go home with you the same day. Pick-up arrangements for unaltered animals and/or animals still on a stray hold will be made during your adoption class.
