It`s common knowledge that black dogs are the hardest to get adopted. Help us fix this, and adopt a dog like Duke. Duke at first glance you may think that there is nothing special about him, right? ...wrong!! Duke is a 2 year old Retriever mix who was picked up by a concerned local woman who found him walking around by himself in bad condition. Duke was incredibly skinny and looked as if he had been starving for a while. Luckily she brought him right to HSSM where staff immediately started to care for him. Since arriving Duke has put on weight and is thriving. Due to his past he is very shy but love to give you hugs and lay in your lap once he becomes comfortable. The best way to his heart is through his tummy, he loves peanut butter and bacon treats. He would benefit from a home with older kids, and a family who will allow him to take his time adjusting. He deserves all the love in the world. Duke is up to date on all vaccinations, preventions, microchipped, dog friendly, and will be neutered upon adoption. He is heartworm positive but please don`t let that turn you away from him, as it`s not his fault. Our HSSM Wellness Clinic does discount treatment for adopters! HSSM is home to over 300 pets on any given day, most of which are looking for new forever homes! Your new best friend could be waiting at HSSM right now. Our beautiful, 41,000 square foot facility is currently open to the public. HSSM is open for adoptions Tuesday – Friday from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. No appointment is necessary to adopt, however, adoptions are first-come, first served. You must come to HSSM to complete your adoption and make sure you bring a photo ID, as it is required to complete adoption paperwork.
Our adoptable animals page is self-updating and displays ALL of HSSM’s adorable adoptable pets from “pocket pets” to birds and of course the hundreds of dogs and cats currently calling HSSM home! See one you like? Make sure you note your favorite’s name and animal ID number so that HSSM staff and volunteers can easily find him/her when you come in!
Adoptions are cut off every day about 30 minutes prior to closing and possibly earlier if volume is high. Weekends are busy and you may have to wait more than an hour (especially in the afternoons) so please be prepared.
