Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Nala Kai is a 17-week-old Husky/Lab mix with a playful, affectionate personality! She is sure to win you over with her little husky howls, singing the cutest little songs.
She adjusted easily to her foster home, where she has plenty of space to run and play. She’s almost completely potty trained and even rings a bell to let you know when she needs to go outside. While she might have the occasional accident, she gives clear signals and is improving every day. Crate-trained, she spends part of the day in her crate and even chooses it as a cozy spot for naps.
She’s currently living with another dog and an adult cat. While she’s eager to play with the cat, he isn’t as interested in her antics. She also lives with children ages 4, 9, and 13 and does well with all of them, although she’s still learning to redirect her puppy nibbles to toys. She’d do well with another dog to match her energy and provide companionship.
Nala Kai would be happiest in an active home with plenty of opportunities for play and adventure. She has a lot of energy and enjoys fetch with her rope toy, wrestling with other dogs, and chewing on her favorite bones. A home with a fenced yard would be ideal, as she needs space to burn off her energy. After a day of fun, she’s also a snuggle bug who loves to settle in for cuddles.
If you’re looking for a smart, energetic, and loving puppy to brighten your days, Nala is ready to meet you!

The adoption fee is $550. Adoption fee includes spay/neuter, heartworm/Lyme test, all age-appropriate vaccinations (distemper, rabies, and Bordetella), heartworm and flea/tick preventatives, and microchip implant (including registration). Adoption fees INCLUDE a mandatory sales tax of 7.525%. Age and breed are based on veterinarian and intake professional’s recommendation and not guaranteed as a rescue animal’s history is often unknown. Due to post-adoption services provided, we prefer to adopt within a 150-mile radius of the Twin Cities. However, we will consider up to 250 miles if the foster agrees to travel requirements and staff approval.

Pet Haven is a foster-based rescue. Our animals live with foster families until they are placed in permanent homes and their foster families get to know the dogs and cats learning important information about the animals. For example, the foster family will know if the dog or cat is good with other animals or children, and will have a good idea of what kind of training, attention, and special needs the pet may require. This makes our foster families great resources for potential adopters!

How We Help

Phoenix Fund for Special Needs: Providing veterinary care for animals in need of healing
What We Do
We help dogs and cats find homes with loving families through foster-based care. Every dog and cat lives with a foster family until they find their forever families. We provide all of their basic needs including proper food, veterinary care, behavior training, and supplies.
Through in-home fostering, we learn about each animal’s temperament, personality, likes/dislikes, and any medical needs. With this first-hand information, we can then find the right family for each dog and cat.
Our volunteers also educate the public on responsible companion animal care and represent respect for animals at all times. Whether we’re working with prospective new families, meeting people at public events, or socializing with friends and family, we encourage others to view and treat their pets as members of the family. We are their guardians, and they depend on us for companionship and care.
We spay/neuter prior to adoption.
We microchip all our Pet Haven Pets and remain as a secondary contact.
We make sure all pets are up to date on required vaccinations
We test for Heartworm and Lymes in all our dogs and are transparent in the results and treament
We test for FeLV/FIV and are transparent in the results. We believe that cats who test positive still deserve a chance at a quality home.
We do not euthanize animals unless they have untreatable health or behavioral conditions that deny them an acceptable quality of life or makes them a serious threat to people, other animals, or themselves.
How We Operate
We rely on adoption fees, tax-deductible donations, grants, and special events to keep our rescue operating. Our staff, Board of Directors, and volunteers have provided the passion and commitment to keep Pet Haven a safe haven for animals for almost 70 years.
We are committed to preventing pet homelessness through the SNIP Grant. Since 2005, we have granted more than $240,000 to organizations in Minnesota to support spay/neuter initiatives.
