My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hello, I'm Crossword, a gentle kitten with a mellow spirit. I may be shy at first, but give me a little time, and you'll find a loyal friend in me. I'm a bit of a puzzle, hence my name. I prefer quiet corners and soft whispers, finding comfort in peaceful surroundings. Despite my timid nature, I'm incredibly sweet and just need someone patient enough to understand me. Adopting me might be like solving a complex crossword - it takes time and patience, but the reward is immeasurable.

More about this shelter

Founded in 1971 as the Animal Aid Society of Englewood, Suncoast Humane Society began with a few cages where people left stray animals to be cared for. Over the years, our service area has grown to include over 400 square miles, covering three counties: Sarasota, Charlotte and portions of Lee.
Suncoast Humane Society provides a safe refuge for thousands of lost, abandoned and abused animals from our service area each year. We are committed to our open-door policy of never turning any animal away, regardless of health, temperament, breed or circumstances.
