My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Freyja is a 2-year-old, affectionate and goofy Great Dane with a striking black and white coat. She’s a gentle giant who will thrive in a home with experience with large breed dogs like Great Danes. Her new family should understand the unique needs of a big dog and be ready to give her the love and care she deserves!

Freyja is sweet, loves snuggles, and will lean in for a good hug. She enjoys ice cream, long walks, and sticking her head out the car window. She’s not a fan of baths or rain, so she’ll need a jacket in cold weather to stay cozy. She also goes to the door and rings a bell when she needs to go outside!

Freyja gets along well with kids and other dogs, especially medium to large, playful dogs. Due to her size, she would do best in a home with older kids who can handle her gentle but exuberant nature. She’s calm at the vet and is learning to be more comfortable with her feet and nails being handled. She does resource guard food and bones, so she eats separately from other dogs to keep things peaceful.

Freyja is also perfectly fine around cats – she doesn’t mind them at all and tends to leave them alone.

Freyja has a chicken allergy, so she eats a sensitive stomach food for large breed dogs. She’s crate trained and responds well to basic commands like “sit,” “stay,” “down,” and “leave it.” She’s also great in the car and loves hikes and swimming.

Freyja is a wonderful, goofy companion who will bring love and laughter to her new family. If you’re ready for a big, cuddly girl with a lot of heart, Freyja just might be the perfect fit!

More about this shelter

Why adopt from LRHS? Adopting from a shelter gives owners the opportunity to meet and bond with their future pet prior to making the commitment to adopt. If you have an existing dog, our professional dog trainers and kennel techs will ensure all dogs meet and get along before sending a new dog into your home. If you run into any unforeseen behavioral or medical issues, educated LRHS staff are here to help field your questions and concerns.

LRHS ensures all dogs placed for adoption are to date on Rabies, Distemper and Bordatella vaccinations and are spayed/neutered, microchipped and administered flea/tick and heartworm treatments monthly. If a dog has a medical condition or behavioral issue, LRHS will make certain you are aware of the issue(s) before you adopt.

LRHS ensures all cats placed for adoption are to date on Rabies and Distemper vaccinations, are spayed/neutered, microchipped, test negative for Feline Leukemia and FIV, and receive their monthly flea treatments. If a cat has a medical or behavioral issue, LRHS will make certain you are aware of the issue(s) before you adopt.

Upon adoption, owners receive a certificate for a free veterinary exam by Winter Harbor or Kindness Animal Hospital and a free starter bag of food!
