WARNING: CUTENESS OVERLOAD!
This cute little spaniel mix, Toffee Brownie, aka "Tinker" in his foster home, came from an unfortunate situation where he was one of a number of dogs. As a result, he has had no training and is having to learn everything about living inside a home; many things and experiences are completely new to him. He is working on his potty training and making progress. He is curious about everything as there are some things he has never seen in his little life. He is also learning house manners as he sometimes acts puppy like, chewing on things he shouldn't and being a bit mouthy when he plays. Tinker can be shy when meeting strangers, but will warm up fairly quickly.
He appears to be closely related to a Boykin Spaniel and has typical traits of a sporting/hunting breed where he experiences life through his nose, almost always to the ground or high in the air catching a scent on the wind. He loves to chase a tennis ball, and he will bring it back, but when he gets tired of chasing, he will lay in the grass and entertain himself with the ball. A fenced in yard would be ideal for this happy little guy. He is playful and active without being overactive. He rides very well and quietly in the car, and despite no formal leash training, walks pretty well on leash. He is a little less than 35 pounds right now, a little thin, and is not expected to get above that.
He has not been terribly fond of a crate, but will be working on adjusting to that. Although he has not been a big barker, he is not suited for apartment life or a home with smaller children as he has not yet learned that he shouldn't jump up on people. He needs a home where his human(s) will be patient with him and able to keep him on a schedule to continue his potty training and provide structure through positive reinforcement training. Tinker is highly food and treat motivated, so training should be easy. He is not interested in or reactive to the resident dogs or cat in his foster home. He gives a sniff, and then goes on about his business without a second look. He is a smart fellow.
Once he learns what he is supposed to be doing while living the good life inside the house, he will be a super loving, loyal little dog.
