Meet shy sensitive Seal! Poor Seal was found by cops as a stray and brought to the open intake shelter. She spends her day shaking in her kennel and hoping someone will whisk her away to a safe home! While Seal is incredibly scared in the shelter, she looks to her human and dog pals for comfort, and really warms up once she realizes she's safe.
Seal is now available for adoption at ACCT Philly. You can meet her any day from 10am-6pm!

Behavior:
01/26/25 day trip notes:
- SUPER scared at first. Did a lot of whining and shaking in my car. Spent some time petting her. She calmed down after about 10min, but she refused treats.
- Took a walk in the woods on my property. She was pulling (lots to smell!) but would always look back to me for reassurance. She was so good when we ventured to the road and a dog across the street was barking at her. Showed no signs of aggression but seemed curious. She followed me easily when I walked her away from the dog.
- Ended our walk early because she seemed overwhelmed. Hung out in my car where it was warm. She demanded to be snuggled! Big time cuddler - she gets nervous and needs to be in your lap. After some time getting pets, I finally got her to take some treats and drink water. Got her a few chicken nuggets, and she really lit up!
- She is SO good with people. And takes treats VERY gently.

KENNEL PRESENTATION:
Seal was laying on her bed trembling when I approached. She looked up with wide, scared eyes and did not come forward. I was able to easily lasso her, and she came out slowly, scared of the dogs in crates barking at her.
LEASH SKILLS:
Pulls minimally, but fearful on leash. Walked with ears back, tail tucked, and body low.
HANDLING :
Seal was very scared and nervous at first, and sought a lot of comfort in her handler. She climbed into my lap right away, trembling. She leaned in hard and allowed all over pets. She just wanted to be in my lap, and whenever I stood up to walk around she would follow close behind. Seal greeted some other staff members in the room but seemed to prefer her main handler. She would go up and sniff them with a low body and low wags, then retreat back to me. With time her trembling slowed and she got a little more relaxed. She took a couple treats very gently, and knew “sit”. Seal allowed all handling with no issues, just needs some time and comfort to open up. Overall she is a super sweet velcro dog that just needs someone to help her build her confidence!
PLAY:
Some interest but too nervous
TOYS
Some interest but too nervous
Per Volunteer 1/25/25: Poor scared sweet Seal! She was shaking in her kennel on her bed when I approached. She didn’t get up from her bed but just was looking at me shaking. I tossed a few treats and she came forward to get them but once the leash came out, she went back to her bed. I ended up just leashing her while laying on her bed after tossing more treats. She is great on leash! She definitely is scared walking by people or loud sounds and looks to me for comfort. She took pets from me all over and seemed to be very comfortable with me after just a few minutes. In the play yard not interested in treats or toys- mostly just wanted to sit by me for comfort! No issues going back into kennel, seemed relieved to go back to her bed
