My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Nellie, a delicate and sweet little 9 lb, 6-year-old Poodle who’s looking for a calm, loving home to call her own. This little lady is shy (but always sweet) around people and prefers to observe from a safe distance rather than being the center of attention. While she’s not a fan of being touched, she will tolerate it if necessary. Nellie has a gentle spirit and thrives in the quiet company of other easygoing dogs, and will follow her people from room to room, keeping her distance, but also staying somewhat close.

Nellie is crate trained and knows how to use a dog door like a pro, making her a low-maintenance addition to the right home. She gets along beautifully with other dogs and would love a home where she can be part of a calm canine pack that would let her snuggle with them. Cats are no problem for Nellie, as she’s perfectly content coexisting with feline friends. Older respectful children that will honor her boundaries would also be just fine. Nellie is deaf, however this doesn't seem to bother her or change her ability to interact.

Nellie’s ideal family is one that understands her need for space and patience and will provide her a balanced routine and structure to help build her confidence. She requires the use of a crate and finds safety and comfort in it's confines- potential adopters should be familiar with the benefits of providing a crate and have plans to do so. She is seeking a home with other dogs and would like to stress that she does not enjoy being touched. Although she is not nippy, she has been roughly and minimally handled, used only for breeding purposes and is really looking forward to settling in with a nice pack of other pups to be her companions. She will likely continue to build confidence and bloom as she has more time to feel safe and settled. If you’re ready to offer a safe and understanding environment for this shy but loving girl, Nellie is waiting to join your family and quietly share her gentle heart with you.

Nellie is spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, and health checked. Her adoption fee is just $200. To be considered, please apply online at caws.org.

Please note that we work to select adoptive homes that best meet the needs of the animals in our care and not on a first come first served basis- Thanks! Go meet their pets

CAWS does not have a conventional shelter facility - all CAWS animals waiting for adoption are in foster homes. The number of animals we can help find new homes for is closely linked to how many CAWS foster homes are available. For additional information regarding how you, too, can become a foster, please see our fostering page located on our web site!

CAWS volunteers bring cats and dogs to the PetSmart near 2100 South and 300 West in South Salt Lake on the third and fourth weekends of each month

We are also at the Sugarhouse PETCO (1165 Wilmington Ave) the first Saturday of each month.
