My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Charles Black is a striking Kelpie mix with a soft coat and an even softer heart. Found as a stray, Charles has already shown his affectionate and adaptable nature, cuddling up with his finder all night and eagerly hopping into the car for a ride. As a working breed, Charles thrives on activity and would do best in a home that can provide him with plenty of enrichment and exercise, like long sniffy walks and engaging play sessions. At the shelter, he delights in rolling and burrowing in the snow, showing off his playful side. While he cried briefly for his finder at bedtime, his need for companionship and love was clear. With his sweet demeanor, love for pets, and a spirited energy, Charles Black is ready to find a forever home that matches his active and affectionate personality.

More about this shelter

The Maryland SPCA connects wonderful pets to loving owners. We are not affiliated with any national animal organization, and we do not receive any government or United Way funding. Our mission is to prevent cruelty and neglect of animals through fostering the humane relationship between animals and people. We operate primarily in the Greater Baltimore Metropolitan area.

To make sure that our dogs and cats do not contribute to the pet overpopulation problem, every one is spayed or neutered before going into a new home. The cost is included in the adoption fee, as are the costs of shots and other necessary care. In addition, a free Positive Pooch class is available to our dog adopters.

There is no set time limit for how long an animal can remain in our adoption program. As long as an animal maintains general good health and a sound temperament, we keep him or her until adopted. We pride ourselves on providing premium care to the animals in a clean, pleasant environment. Our adoption staff works diligently to pair up adopters with the best animal match for their homes and lifestyles.

We transport animals from other shelters to our adoption center to help more animals get adopted. We also help pet owners find new homes for their pets so their animals don’t need to enter shelter care.
