A volunteer rights: At 3-years-old Blue Smoke lost his home when his guardian was evicted. He's struggled since arriving, and trembled in his kennel when approached in his first days. He's warmed to familiar people, but is still unsure. He seems most comfortable when he can play, and even on leash he takes the opportunity for a quick game of sidewalk fetch. He tosses the toy at our feet and watches it expectantly. I imagine this is a game Blue has played 100s of times with his family, a familiar routine. When we toss it to him he retrieves it and tosses it back and repeats this happily. Yet we can see he's stressed, and though he bravely props up or settles for cuddles, they are brief.
In his previous home, Blue was described as affectionate, playful, active and lazy. Among the things he loves they listed: balls, cuddles, car rides and water. They said he prefers contact with new people on his own time and terms, and has been tolerant and playful with dogs in the past. At the shelter he avoided the novel female dog before sniffing her. When she approached excitedly he flinched and retreated. Blue Smoke is available via a rescue only.
What my friends at ACC say about me:
I would do best in a home with only adult humans.
I can be slow to adjust to new environments. I prefer to take things at my own pace.
I am looking for a home with a patient person.
