My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

How this pet arrived:
Jesse was brought in by a community member on December 26, 2024.

Why this pet is the one for you:
Picture it: a dark, stormy night. A lone figure emerges from the shadows of an abandoned building. It's Jesse-mysterious, brooding, and undeniably handsome. His past is a bit of a noir thriller, but he's ready to start a new chapter. Jesse is looking for a calm, understanding household where his theatrical flair for dramatic entrances and cautious exits can truly shine. Jesse has made it clear he's not interested in the paparazzi lifestyle of a bustling, high-traffic home or the chaos of small children. His dream? A quiet sanctuary where everyone speaks the universal language of cat body language. If you force his paw with too much attention too soon, Jesse will retreat like a true feline heartthrob. Building trust with him is more of a slow-burn romance-think indie drama, not rom-com. For his leading role, Jesse may also need some extended confinement to help him adjust (he's a method actor, after all). A space of his own where he can feel safe and take his time to come out of his shell will set the stage for a successful transition. While Jesse could embrace the role of an indoor-only cat, he may also enjoy the occasional open-air soliloquy-perhaps from the safety of a secure catio. Found in the shadows and initially fearful, Jesse has started to reveal his social side with staff who respect his boundaries and give him space. While he's not looking for a co-star in the form of a rambunctious dog, he may be open to an easygoing, non-intrusive canine companion. If you're ready to bring this complex and intriguing character into your life, don't forget to arrive with a hard-sided, top-loading cat carrier-because Jesse's exit from his current chapter needs to be as safe as it is stylish. Jesse's life is ready for Act Two. Will you be his quiet and loving audience?

Jesse requires a virtual behavior consult, please watch THIS video to learn more about them.

More about this shelter

San Diego Humane Society, an open-admission shelter, is creating a more humane world by inspiring compassion and advancing the welfare of animals and people. Our lifesaving safety net has helped San Diego become the largest city in the U.S. to keep healthy and treatable shelter animals from being euthanized. We are a private, independent, nonprofit organization that is not affiliated with any other humane society or society for the prevention of cruelty to animals.

With campuses in El Cajon, Escondido, Oceanside, Ramona and San Diego, we provide animal services for 14 cities within San Diego County. We not only care for 50,000 animals in our communities but also share the expertise we have gained through our innovative programs with shelters nationwide so they can save more lives in their communities.

While our influence is expanding nationally, our top priority is meeting the needs of San Diego. We provide exceptional care for all animals through world-class veterinary medicine, shelter and most of all: love.
