My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Potty trained, lovable, couch potato Pooke is ready for the sweet life!
Pooke has already faced too many challenges in her short 2 years. This 27-pound scruffy Border Terrier / Schnauzer mix was found wandering the tough streets of Houston, bravely fending for herself after being neglected by her previous owner. It was found out that Pooke was left out in the yard of her "home" 24/7 and learned how to jump the fence to escape that life... and it worked! She was picked up and brought into a shelter and her owners never went to pick her up. Now Pooke has arrived to Colorado, and is in a loving foster home while she awaits her new forever home.

From Pooke's foster:

"Hi! I’m fostering Pooke, and I can’t wait to share how wonderful she is. First of all, it's hard to show in photos, but she is really so small!!!

Pooke is an affectionate, calm little couch potato who absolutely loves napping next to her dog buddies (she snuggles with my dog all the time!)
She’s such a low-maintenance companion indoors because she’s happiest lounging and relaxing. She gets along with other dogs very well.

Pooke is potty trained—she only had one little accident—and she eats in her crate twice a day, with a mix of wet and dry food, plus a few treats in between. She’s okay being in her crate for meals and has even started improving when we reward her with treats for short crate times. However, she’s still working on feeling comfortable being in the crate for longer periods, so her ideal home would be with someone who works from home and can give her extra time and patience to feel safe and secure.

She’ll need a home without a yard, or someone who doesn't mind letting her out into the yard on a leash because, despite her small size, she’s quite the jumper and could easily escape if left unattended. We found out that she can jump an 8 foot fence!!!! I’ve been keeping her on a leash for potty breaks, and it works well.

She’s also sneaky when it comes to food—if no one’s looking, she’ll help herself from the table!

Pooke would thrive in a home that can provide lots of love and understanding as she continues to build her confidence. She’s such a sweet and loving dog, and I know she’ll bring so much joy to her forever family!"

A (virtual or in-person) positive reinforcement group training class promotes great behavior, bonding and confidence for a young dog whose self-esteem will fly high while she masters her skills. Training is so important in the future behaviors of every dog. It's for this reason that we're unwilling to adopt to a family that doesn't make this loving choice. Farfel's is happy to provide a list of both in-person and virtual positive reinforcement / force- free trainers in your area. Our training requirement is to help every adoption be successful.

Pooke is up to date on her vetting/vaccinations to be in line with our commitment to adopting out healthy dogs. She has also been spayed to fulfill our desire to see a euthanasia-free future.

Pooke is available for adoption now. Applications are currently being accepted for this very sweet, loving and loyal best friend. An application can be found at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/. If interested, please fill out completely and submit.

**PLEASE NOTE**. If you're truly interested in adopting Pooke, please be sure to submit our adoption application. It's the only initial tool that we have to determine a great match for this very deserving dog. We're sorry, but in many circumstances, we're unable to get back to those that don't submit a Farfel's Farm adoption application. Thanks very much for choosing rescue.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

Farfel's Rescue is a fully foster based rescue, and offers a one week trial with every adoption. We feel that this is much more beneficial to not only the dog, but the adopter too. We believe that only getting 20-30 minutes with a dog before deciding on a lifetime commitment is not a fair amount of time to the adopter, or the dog. Therefore we give adopters one week with the dog to assure it is the right fit, and offer a full refund of their adoption fee should it not workout within the week trial.

An Adoption Application and an Adoption Contract must be completed before any dog can begin their one week foster. Our average adoption fee is $695. This amount serves to cover vetting, spay/neuter, all vaccinations, temperament testing, transport, a microchip, harness, food, and treats.
Our dogs come from Texas, Kansas, New Mexico, Oklahoma and rural Colorado.

Adoption application

Go meet their pets

Pets are transported from the southern states every week. Almost 100% of the time, the dogs are spoken for as a result of adoption applications that can be referenced under Adoption at farfelsrescue.com. We study the applications. If the app indicates there is a match, followed up by a home visit and reference checks, the process moves to the next step. The adopter is committing to a one week foster (of course the dog can be returned at any time prior), and can then choose to finalize the adoption.

More about this rescue

We own a pet boutique named Farfel's Farm & Rescue on Pearl Street in Boulder, Colorado. We have had the good fortune to find our niche in the Boulder community and experience success. We felt it very important to "pay it forward" in gratitude. We couldn't think of a better endeavor than to save dogs who were out of time in the southern states, yet had been identified with great temperaments. We dedicate our efforts to their good health and ultimate wonderful, permanent homes.
