Meet Jerry, are you ready to win the puppy lottery! Here he is! A gorgeous almost 8-month-old Shepard mix. He is confident, calm and down for absolutely any adventure. If you like to hike, take a leisurely walk around the block or a relaxing break at your busy neighborhood coffee shop Jerry is truly your guy. Jerry is fantastic in the car and is truly down for anything and just loves being with his people.
Jerry has the most wonderful demeanor of any big dog we’ve ever met. He is gentle, loving, playful, and possesses an old soul. Extremely smart and very treat motivated. Jerry knows basic commands; sit, down and “place”. Jerry is wonderful on leash; he is very curious about all dogs that walk by however is a perfect gentleman and responds to his handler quickly. He is so well behaved on walks his fosters family often has the 11-year-old son walk him.
Jerry is a confident dog that would do well in a home with other dogs and kids. He is currently fostered with 3 other dogs of all ages and sizes. He and the other puppy play hard and Jerry is still learning manners however is very gentle with the small dog in the house and is respectful. Jerry loves to play with fetch and with the flirt pole.
Jerry is his best self with moderate exercise daily, that can be a walk or an outing. He regularly joins his foster family to the baseball field, the soccer field or to dog friendly restaurants. He has joined his foster mom to the equestrian center where he met horses, goats, pigs and chickens he was a perfect gentleman in meeting all other animals except the chickens. He thinks chasing them is A LOT of fun, however he is so responsive to his handler that I believe with more exposure he would learn his manners.
Jerry also loves his naps; he will find a shading spot in the back yard or curl up on the couch. He loves to start is bed time routine under the stars and then comes in and sleeps inside on a dog bed near us.
He truly is a special one! Please reach out to learn more. Jerry needs a family who understands the demands of raising a puppy and is willing to commit to the full-time job of training and nurturing him.
Jerry also comes with an amazing opportunity to work with Out Of The Bark . Four trainings (in person or virtual depending on adopters location) has been gifted to Jerry from trainer Dan’s foundation. Dan is a Certified Dog Behavior Consultant of the Karen Pryor Academy Certified Training Partner(KPA-CTP) this opportunity with truly set Jerry up for success in any household.
A health note: Jerry was originally surrendered to the shelter at just six weeks old with a prolapsed rectum. He underwent surgery to correct it, the initial procedure was unsuccessful. After a more invasive second surgery, Jerry is on the mend. His developing muscles mean that a steady, balanced diet is crucial for his well-being. He is stable and is able to have his kibble + a nice array of treats and chew toys enrichment. Jerry does require a home with a backyard and easy access would be ideal for him as due to his surgeries he relives himself multiple times a day, he is doggy door trained and will be sure to get outside.
At a perfect medium size of about 45 pounds, Jerry is a tall boy who will continue to grow and fill out. He’s looking for a forever home that will provide him with the care, love, and stability he needs. Help us find this remarkable boy the loving forever home he deserves.

We have foster families throughout the Bay Area, spanning from Sacramento to Gilroy. All of our dogs are cared for in foster homes, as we do not yet have a physical facility—but we dream of one day saving animals without boundaries.
To ensure thoughtful and responsible adoptions, we do not host large adoption events. Instead, we prefer to showcase pets in their foster homes, where they feel most comfortable. After you apply, the foster family will reach out to discuss next steps, answer any questions, and arrange a meet-and-greet.
If your application is not chosen for a specific dog, we keep it on file for 90 days. During this time, you can email us to request your application be forwarded to other foster parents for dogs you may be interested in.

More about this rescue
Underdog Animal Rescue, our name pretty much sums us up. We are a registered 501c3 non-profit, volunteer operated nonprofit group dedicated to saving homeless and abandoned dogs from high kill and overcrowded shelters all over the state of California since 2014. We are an all-breed, size and age rescue, meaning we save many of the hardest to place, overbred such as pit bulls and chihuahuas. Our foster-based group lives and operates anywhere from Sacramento to Monterey. We literally give them another chance at life. We have saved over 3000 dogs since starting and we only plan to continue to grow.
When we rescue an animal, we place them in a foster home where they can decompress, learn to be a pet, socialized, spay/neutered, vaccinated, and treated for any medical or behavioral conditions which would otherwise limit their chances of adoption. We then actively network our dogs to find them the perfect forever loving home. Rescue is undoubtedly hard and trying work, but it is entirely worth it to see the life of a dog saved. As a rescue, we believe it is our duty to save the dogs that really need our help; the dogs that need a little TLC, a little medical care, or just someone to believe in them again. Therefore, we save the dogs that are on their last days at the shelter or haven't even been given a chance to be adopted by the public. As much as we love those sweet puppy eyes, we think more of saving their mommy’s and daddy’s that have been shoved to the back of the shelter awaiting their fate.
Thank you for seeing what we do and loving us for it. It’s only because of our outstanding community, foster families, and volunteers that we can continue our efforts, we are 100% donation funded and every penny counts toward a dog in need. Please consider getting involved- foster, adopt, volunteer, share, donate!
As a foster based rescue, Underdog places dogs in temporary foster homes where they can decompress and get the love and affection that they need. Dogs are also vaccinated, spayed/neutered and receive any other medical treatment needed before finding their forever home.
