My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

How this pet arrived:
Onyx was brought in by a community member.

Why Onyx might be the one for you:
Onyx is a striking looking girl with her kind of up/kind of down ears, dark brown coloring and a bright, perfectly placed white mark on her chest. Her foster describes her as being a little timid but also energetic and curious. She sits down upon command for treats and then offers her paw as if to say "thanks and got more?". Given how quickly she has adapted to her foster family, she will probably do the same in her new home. She may prefer a quiet home with dog savvy people who can help build her confidence and get rid of her shyness. We have resources and tips to help you work with a dog like Onyx. It won't take long and Onyx will be by your side and you will be complimenting her on what a good dog she is. She will like that and you will like her.

More about this shelter

San Diego Humane Society, an open-admission shelter, is creating a more humane world by inspiring compassion and advancing the welfare of animals and people. Our lifesaving safety net has helped San Diego become the largest city in the U.S. to keep healthy and treatable shelter animals from being euthanized. We are a private, independent, nonprofit organization that is not affiliated with any other humane society or society for the prevention of cruelty to animals.

With campuses in El Cajon, Escondido, Oceanside, Ramona and San Diego, we provide animal services for 14 cities within San Diego County. We not only care for 50,000 animals in our communities but also share the expertise we have gained through our innovative programs with shelters nationwide so they can save more lives in their communities.

While our influence is expanding nationally, our top priority is meeting the needs of San Diego. We provide exceptional care for all animals through world-class veterinary medicine, shelter and most of all: love.
