My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Yeehaw! We reckon we’ve got a Cowgirl Corgi on our hands! Bonnie is a heeler/corgi mix at a petite 18 lbs. She is estimated to be around 2.5 years old. Bonnie has had a rough go and was found with four other dogs in a horrible abandonment situation. We’re not sure how long she had been on her own but she’s learning to trust people and how to live in a home.

Bonnie is a smart and spunky little lady! She picks up on routines very quickly and is working hard at house manners, leash walking and potty training (which has been a bit challenging since we’ve had snow on the ground since finding her🙃). She will need to continue to perfect her skills in her new home. She is fearful of being left outside due to her past, she prefers her person to go out with her.

Bonnie has made great progress in trusting people! She now wags and zoomies when her person gets home or greets her first thing in the morning. A typical heeler, she wants to diligently keep tabs on her person as they move about the house. Bonnie will make a very loyal companion for a lucky someone!

Our foster home has kids and other dogs. Bonnie has not shown any food aggression and eats meals with the other dogs. We think she’d do well as an only dog or with an easy-going pup companion to play with. She has not had any incidents with the children, but prefers to lay low while they are around. She’d do well in a home with older children who are less unpredictable and can respect her space, as needed.
Due to her past and being in survival mode, she still shows some spatial protectiveness, Once she has a warm, safe space…she doesn’t want other dogs to take it. This behavior has already subsided greatly as she has become more comfortable in her environment. She’s very smart and observant. She’s learning quickly that she can let her guard down, relax and have fun being a dog!
Bonnie's adoption fee is $325
She is being fostered in Villa Ridge Mo

Additional adoption info

We want to make this easy and we want to be sure that the dog you are interested in is a fit for you. Finding a dog or pup that works with your schedule and lifestyle is key to our placement. The questions on the application help us know if the dog you choose will do well in your home. Number of hours your dog is home alone, fenced yard, exercise plan, other family members – pets included; those are important things we want to discuss with you and your chosen canine.  We do require a vet reference.

The application is on our website: Istodaymydayrescue.org. Complete and send. You can expect a reply within 24-48 hours.  As all of our dogs are in foster care, we will then contact the foster home and arrange a meeting.  The foster home might want to do a home visit or you might meet at a convenient location. If it is a good fit, some adoptions can be completed at that time of the meeting.

All of our dogs are spayed or neutered prior to adoption. All of our dogs are micro chipped, wormed, heartworm tested if over 6 months, on heartworm preventative, treated for fleas, and have age appropriate vaccines. Pups under 16 weeks require ongoing vaccines every 2 to 3 weeks.

More about this rescue

“Is today my day?” That is what every shelter dog asks. “Is today the day that I find a home, get a family, discover that I am a best friend”? We want to tell those dogs: “Yes, it is!”

We are a foster based rescue who aims to serve south central Missouri, an area with a low human population and a high canine population. Our mission is to help dogs from this area find homes in the St. Louis area through adoptions and transfers. After covering spay/neuter costs, 20% of each adoption fee goes to our emergency medical fund so we can help canine accident victims, pay for emergency C-sections, and other health needs. The remainder of the adoption fee goes to the dogs.

We are foster based and do not have a facility. Moms and pups are our focus, but we will help any dog we can. We are only able to accept a dog when a foster home is available. All dogs and pups are current on vaccines, micro-chipped, heartworm tested, wormed, and treated for fleas and ticks. All dogs over 12 weeks have been altered; if too young for this procedure, a spay/neuter reimbursement is provided when the procedure is done.
