My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.

Hatch Date: 2007

Mario is a male, Blue Fronted Amazon. He has been with one family his whole life, but his mom is finding it difficult to give him the attention he deserves and wants better for him.

Mario has been on a mixed diet of pellets, nuts, and dried fruits. He will make it known that he wants what you are eating. Some of his favorites table foods include pizza, pasta, and chicken leg. He also enjoys a piece of toast dipped in a soft-boiled egg.  An occasional piece of steak, potato, string beans. And some warm oatmeal. ( spoonful) all given in moderation. If adhering to his gourmet requests he certainly will be your best buddy!

Mario's beak is deformed and it requires regular trimming. He currently goes to get it trimmed every 8 weeks.

Mario can say Hello, What Are You Doing? Night Night, Here Comes the Sun and Hello Sunshine.

His cage is in the kitchen/family room and he enjoys being a part of the family. He was raised with the family's mini schnauzer who taught him to bark better than him.

Mario loves wooden toys and rope with plenty of knots. He is very territorial of his cage. He can be taken out with the end of a wooden spoon. Once he is out he can be held. He also enjoys the occasional bath under the kitchen faucet.

Mario has been disease tested for psittacosis and PBFD.

Mario is participating in our Help with Rehoming program and is still with his original family in Barnegat, NJ.  He will only be adopted to a forever home within driving distance.  We will NOT ship our birds. Three visits are required to adopt Mario.

For the Love of Birds is a group of dedicated foster homes throughout NJ and Eastern PA.  We do not have a central location. We only allow approved applicants to make visits.

If interested in adopting Mario, you must be willing to make the required number of visits.  Please visit our website ftlob.rescuegroups.org. Please read our adoption policies & procedures and complete an adoption application.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

The adoption procedure begins with completing an adoption application and returning it to us. We will check your references and then call you for a telephone interview. While we check your references, we will ask that you review an educational power point presentation. After your application is approved, it is our policy that you visit with the bird(s) three times to have multiple interactions with them and give you time to consider the adoption and get ready for your new family member. There is an adoption fee for each bird.
