My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Wrigley!

My name is Wrigley, and I was born on 10/20/2024 in Texas with my eight siblings! I am one of the 6 girls in the litter. Right now, I’m about 13 weeks old and weigh 7.2lbs. My papers say I’m a Terrier/Pit mix, but me and my siblings are a small colorful bunch, so it’s anyone’s guess!

I am the shyest and most reserved of my siblings. I love trying new things, but it does take me a minute to get comfortable with them sometimes. I was scared to go outside for the first time, but now I’m pretty good at it. I was scared to go on my first walk, but I’m learning that it can be fun (even if my foster mom has to carry me part way). If I see my siblings or foster parents doing things first, I have a much easier time trying something new! I’m learning quickly that things are fun and not going to hurt me, but it’s taking me some time. Sometimes I do get bursts of energy and will play a little rough with my brothers and sisters, but I’m mostly a calm puppy that just likes affection. I’m a big fan of sitting in someone’s lap and getting all the pets I can.

I’ve been busy at my foster home with all my brothers and sisters and my two foster siblings. I do great with the large, adult dogs that live here and have liked every other big dog I’ve met on walks so far. I haven’t met any cats yet, but I think I would like them too, even if they don’t appreciate my puppy curiosity. There is a 12-year-old boy that lives here; I get so excited to play with him and love every kid I have met so far! I haven’t met any really young children yet, but if you watch my excitement around them, I should be just fine.

Due to my age, I haven’t mastered walking on a leash yet, and I’m learning that outside can be fun. Also due to my age, I haven’t been potty trained yet, but I do try my hardest to use my pee pads. I’ve been working to learn to sit and haven’t had issues with using my teeth the wrong way, and I will continue trying my hardest! I would much rather give kisses than bite. I haven’t been completely left home alone yet, as I have my brothers and sisters with me. That may take me a little time to get used to, but I don’t think crate training will be an issue for me. I take corrections very well and should learn quickly with my new family.
I’m having so much fun and learning so much every day, but I can’t wait to meet my new family!

More about this rescue

We are a small 501 C3 nonprofit rescue located in Elburn, Illinois. In 2014, Safe Haven Dog Rescue became its own non-profit. We are licensed by the Illinois Agriculture Department.

The majority of our dogs and puppies are pulled from Kill Pounds and Shelters in Tennessee, Arkansas, and Illinois. We also accept local medical cases as often as our finances will allow.

Please take a few moments to read the stories about the dogs and puppies we have available for adoption. We disclose everything we know about the dogs, sometimes we know a lot often we know only that they were strays, thrown away on the side of the road, in the woods, or found in abandoned houses.

While we don’t always know their past we are certain that their future is much brighter.

We hope that you and your family are part of the future…..
