Meet Camilla Twinkie, a 5-year-old Havanese with a sweet but shy demeanor. Camilla came to us in November 2024 after she was rescued from a commercial breeding facility. Still learning to navigate the world around her, Camilla is very timid and needs a patient and understanding adopter experienced with fearful dogs. Camilla would benefit greatly from a calm and supportive environment where she can build trust at her own pace. She may thrive with a well-socialized dog in the home, as having a canine companion could help her feel more comfortable and confident. If you have room in your heart and home for this gentle soul, Camilla Twinkie is waiting to meet you at our Port Washington, NY Adoption Center.

When you come down to NSALA an associate will help you figure out what kind of animal will do best in your situation. At that point they will take out the animals you are interested in so that you may get to know them. You will have plenty of time to play and interact with your new friend in our family friendly areas designated for that purpose. When you decide you want to adopt, an associate will help you fill out an application.

Our adoption fees are as follows:
Puppies (up to 6 months) $350
Adult Dogs (over 6 months) $100
Puppy Mill Rescues $250
Small Breed & Pure Breeds (over 6 months) $250
Kittens (up to 6 months) $100
Double Kittens $150
Adult Cats (over 6 months) $50
Double Adult Cats $75

Where applicable, a $50 Spay/Neuter deposit is required for kittens, $75 for puppies.

Our Adoption Center, is open every Thursday-Sunday 12pm-8pm. On average, our shelter is home to 350 dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens. Behind the scenes, the Adoption Center contains a nursery area, medical examination room and a grooming area where new admissions are health checked, vaccinated, bathed and groomed.

Visitors are reminded that adoption is a lifelong commitment. After selecting a pet, each potential adopter is thoroughly screened, ensuring each adopter recognizes the life-changing commitment a new pet can be. To date, over 1,000,000 pet owners have met our high standards and adopted a pet from North Shore Animal League America.
