Meet Bonita, a unique blend of shy and curious. She carries a calm, mellow aura that`s soothing, and her well-behaved nature makes her get along well with other dogs and cats. We haven`t seen her with children yet. Bonita is quiet, preferring to observe her surroundings with an alert gaze, taking in every detail and exploring every little detail, sometimes getting so involved that she stubbornly refuses to move along. Bonita weighs 26 pounds and her bouncy walk is a delight to witness, a testament to her joyful spirit despite her shyness. She`s house-trained and leash-trained, making her an ideal roommate. In her finder`s home she showed that she knows how to use a doggie door. Her distrustful nature may make her seem distant, but she`s a sweetheart just waiting for the right person to show her what true love and care is. Pet Adoption Fees
CAP adoption fees include a variety of services - age-appropriate vaccinations, canine heartworm, and feline leukemia tests, spaying/neutering, deworming treatment, microchipping to name a few - the total value of which exceeds $450. These minimal adoption fees cover only part of each animal's stay at our shelter - please help us keep adoption fees low while maintaining the high quality of care for the animals in our charge by donating and/or volunteering.

A second dog or puppy, adopted within 30 days of the first adoption receives a $20 discount.

Any dog/puppy adopted at the same time as a cat/kitten will be adoptable at a $20 discount.

Citizens For Animal Protection, founded in 1972, is committed to sheltering, rescuing, and placing homeless animals in loving homes; advocating respect and compassion for all animal life; providing humane education to prevent animal cruelty; and raising awareness in the community of the needs of animals.

CAP is proud to announce that through life-saving adoption and transfer programs and a lot of hard work, we have maintained a placement rate of over 93% for all homeless pets surrendered to our shelter in 2021. In 2021, CAP provided care for 10,260 animals; this includes animals surrendered by the public and transferred in from animal control agencies and rescue groups, animals already in the shelter and foster care program, feral cats trapped/neutered/returned and animals receiving vaccinations and other treatments in our low-cost vaccination clinic, The Cornelius Clinic.
