Muñeca's rescuer found her on the side of the road, trembling in fear and very thin. After asking around the neighborhood to see if she had an owner, with no success, Muñeca's rescuer took her home. Muñeca has been checked out by the vet, vaccinated, spayed, and confirmed parasite-free. She is becoming less nervous as she realizes she is in a safe place now, and she is eating well and loves hanging out with other dogs. The vet believes Muñeca is around ten years old.

Defensa Animal de Puerto Rico is a Puerto Rico-based nonprofit working to help the dogs, cats and horses on the island by:

- Lowering the number of dogs, cats and horses that are injured, un-owned or neglected by providing adoption marketing and financial assistance for vet services
- Increasing the rate of sterilization of all cats and dogs and castration of stallions/horses
- Taking in, rehabilitating and rehoming unwanted, injured or abandoned horses

For dogs, cats, pigs, birds, etc., Defensa relies on foster homes. For horse rescue, Defensa utilizes donated land.
