My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

French Toast landed himself one heck of a foster home, and we have been learning so much about our sweet Brunch King.
The first night in his foster home Toast was petrified, and he took comfort in the small space of the bathroom, and it’s where he curled up for the first 24 hours.
Toastie is a totally foodie though, and a calm touch and lots of treats is an easy way to get to his heart. These days Toast now curls up in his favorite futon rather than the cold bathroom floor, or he falls asleep head on the legs of the humans. Toastie has even become quite the work from home help (some would say distraction) and he won’t hestitate to remind you if you haven’t stopped for a snack break in awhile!
Toastie loves his cat friends and tries hard to be buds, though he is also so receptive with them that even the wise senior cat in the house doesn’t mind him - and he usually minds the Foster dogs mom brings home. Toast is dog friendly as well and in fact lights up when he sees dogs - we think his confidence would skyrocket with a dog friend. Toast’s foster parents also say he is a smart cookie who picks up on training quickly. Toast is so wonderful in fact he smoozed foster dad into going from “temp foster” to “full time foster.”
While Toast has come so far in the time we have had him, he still has a ways to go. Many of our dogs past we can only speculate on, and it’s not often you’ll hear me outrightly say it, but I know a person caused Toast to have all the fears he has and I’m furious about it. Toast still flinches and panics if you come in too quickly to say hi. He has good days and bad days as to what might spook him and send him off to find a safe space for hours, and the spooky electrician that came to the house ruined almost an entire weekend for him. Toast is truly one of the NICEST dogs, he just aims to please, and you can tell he wants so badly to be the happy, cuddley, carefree dog that we see glimmers of each day. We know he will get there, and we will take all the Swampie time he needs. ♥️
If you think you might be just what the Brunch King needs message us here or reach out at 904-392-3416 and check out our story to see more.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

When you adopt a dog from Swamp Haven, you’re not just saving a life. You’re beginning a journey filled with love, loyalty and trust. Life can be busy and stressful. The companionship of a dog is a constant reminder to slow down and enjoy the little things. At Swamp Haven, our mission isn’t to just help down-on-their-luck dogs find their forever homes. Our mission is to create a lasting relationship with you and your family.
Adopt happiness. Our adoption process is unique in that we work with you every step of the way to ensure that we’re placing the right dog with the right family. First, chat with us about what you’re looking for in a dog and we will set up a time for you to meet the lucky pup. From there, fill out an application. Once reviewed we set up a time to bring your potential pup to your house for a home visit and trial week. We want to make sure it’s the right fit for both your family and the dog involved. We will be totally available during the trial week for any questions or concerns. The last step is to finalize the adoption. And then congrats, you’re a new member of the Swamp Haven family and your happy tail has just begun!

Our adoption fee is $350

More about this rescue

Swamp Haven is an animal rescue organization that takes down-on-their-luck dogs and nurtures them back to a healthy mental and physical state, so they can find their forever home. Our goal is simple. We save innocent dogs that have been overlooked by society and provide short-term care including vetting (vaccinations, spay/neuter, microchip and heartworm and flea prevention) and training to learn how to walk politely on a leash, play in a pack and live calmly and lovingly in their new home.
