My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.

MARGO was saved from a high kill shelter in Texas and  arrived at Give a Dog a Home Rescue in Sebec, Maine on Friday, 14th February. We post our available dogs in states across the east coast and Canada to reach as many people as possible in hopes to find perfect homes and families. We do not transport dogs, families must come to the rescue to meet and then hopefully take home..

MARGO is spayed, rabies, core vaccines, heartworm and tick tested negative, is on monthly flea/tick prevention and was given the 12 month pro-heart heartworm prevention injection in February 2025. She is microchipped and on 12 February weighed 58.20 pounds. She has an estimated date of birth of January 2023.  We do not know what the breed is, we expect families to decide looking at any pictures and video's provide and decide if the breed is a good fit for their family.

This beautiful girl was adopted from a Texas shelter as a young pup in June 2013, sadly found herself back in a kill shelter in December 2024 at just under 2 years old and is a complete love bug.

At the shelter, before coming to Maine, MARGO was lucky to be part of the shelters "Doggy Day Out Program" as she as so well behaved - this is some feedback from the shelter volunteers in their play groups:
(5 January) - Shelter Doggy Day Out Program

  • "How did your dog do in the car? Loved it!
  • Which of the following activities did the dog enjoy? Going on a walk
  • How did they interact with strangers? I love meeting new friends!
  • If they saw any cats, how did they react? We didn’t see any cats
  • If they saw any other dogs, how did they react? She was super curious and wanted to go right up to them. She didn’t bark at any
  • even when they would bark at her
  • If they met any children, how did they react? She didn’t meet any children
  • How did I walk on the leash? She was excited and would stay at the pace I went
  • How were my manners and do I know any tricks? Jumpy, Good manners
  • Did they show any of the additional behaviors listed below? Warms up (timid at first), Wants to sniff, Wants to run
  • The best part of my Daycation was when.......Ending our day with a pup cup!
  • Any additional notes you would like to include about the dog? Margo was happy and excited to do anything in the day!"

The shelter volunteer stated (8 January) Dog didn't mind the other and made way away from others to relax to self for some time and showed some playful energy with the others once getting warmed up with the group. (16 January) High energy, jumpy, social with people, loose wiggly body, wants to play and run, high energy. (22 January) During the observation Margo was a good girl, she listens to the command sit and has a burst of energy. (28 January) High energy, jumpy, knows sit, knows shake, leash puller. Social with dogs and people, loose wiggly body. Love bug, wants to play, wants to run, solicits pets. Knows sit, shake, energetic, jumper, loves to run interests in dogs leash reactive.  (Rescue comments - it is important to take into account when reading these comments that these dogs are in a strange environment with a lot of dogs, and they are learning about each other in a very small space of time, it is high stimulation environment, also often the first time they have had exercise with other dogs.  Comments are from volunteers, not trainers or behavio rists).

We are looking for families that have the lifestyle that the dog needs to lead a healthy, both mentally and physically life, who can afford a GOOD quality food, toys and treats and understand the importance of veterinary wellness checks.

MARGO is available for adoption for an adoption fee of $300, as noted she is located at the rescue in Sebec, Maine and families are required to complete and submit an  adoption application and when approved schedule an appointment to come to the rescue to meet and hopefully take home this sweet girl.

Applications are processed with 24 hours of them being received.

More about this rescue

Founded by Jenny an English woman who found her way to Texas on 14th February 2011 in San Antonio, Texas we saved dogs from the high kill shelters in Texas.

In July 2015, Jenny relocated herself and the rescue to the beautiful state of Maine, it's weather and people much like that of her home in Northern England.

We still save dogs from the high kill shelters in Texas where dogs have just 3 days to be saved. We vet them, they have veterinary examination and are issued with health certificates and then transported to the rescue in Sebec, Maine.
