My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

For inquiries email nancy@compactcaninerescue.org Fee: $600 Location: Williamsburg, VA Heidi is new in rescue. She is a retired breeder dog from Pennsylvania. She is about 3 years old and weighs about 18 pounds. She is very sweet and loving. Her tail doesn't stop wagging. She will make a lovely addition to any home. Please let us learn more about her wants and needs then we will post an update. She will be spayed and once healed she will be ready for adoption.   UPDATE: 2/22/2025 Learning to drink from a bowl and making progress. Requires patient owner and quiet home. Easily startled by sounds, sudden movements. Tolerates other dogs. Working on potty training, doing well when taken out frequently. Good eater, sleeper. Working on leash skills Has found her voice. Yay! UPDATE 3/24/2025: Heidi continues to be skittish. She will need a lot of time and patience in her new home . She is very sweet and makes progress daily. She will have her dental tomorrow then, once healed, be ready for adoption. Stay tuned to our social media channels for the latest pup-dates. Their adoption process

1.

Submit Application

After submission we check with the vet you referenced to obtain your pets medical history and the adopters compliance with recommendations

2.

Interview

Once you pass the vet. reference, we schedule an interview to find out more about you, the applicant, and the type of dog you want to adopt

3.

Home Check

If the phone interview is passed we then visit your home to see how one of our dogs reacts to the family, other pets and the environment.

4.

Approve Application

We have a committee to whom the applications are presented. They read over the entire packet and either approve or deny the app

5.

Meet the Pet

Once an adopter is approved they can call the foster parents and find out more about our dogs. If they match we set up a Meeting

6.

Sign Adoption Contract

If one of our dogs is a good fit, then at the meet an adoption can take place during the meet and greet

7.

Pay Fee

when contracts are signed, the fee is collected

More about this rescue

The founding members of our rescue are dog lovers. Especially, small dogs! When we saw the need to help so many small dogs of various breeds and mixes, we collaborated to form a non-breed-specific rescue to help as many small dogs as possible. Our mission is to help dogs who weigh up to 20 pounds.

Adoption is not first come first served. We match our dogs to potential owners to ensure the best outcomes for all involved! Our philosophy is: Rescue - Rehabilitate - Rejoice!

Our mission statement is as follows:
Compact Canine Rescue is a network of volunteers committed to rehabilitating small dogs and rehoming them with forever families on the east coast of the United States. We are passionate about promoting responsible pet parenting and educating the public on what makes dogs healthy and happy.
