My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Say hello to Oodles of Noodles – AKA Noodle, Noodle Boodle, Squidoodle, Cheeky Noodle, and Noodleman. While this guy may have many names, he is 100% lovebug. If you have a hand to give him chin scritchies you’ll become fast friends.

Before coming to Tails High, Noodle was living in the backyard of one of our supporters on Capitol Hill. This Good Samaritan made sure he had plenty of food, water, and a warm shelter to sleep in. They noticed that as time went on, Noodle would allow them to get closer and closer to him. Believing that Noodle would be happy as an inside kitty with the right foster parent to get him acclimated, they asked Tails High to get him off the streets. On the night before this year’s first big snow, the Good Samaritan and a volunteer (along with some treats and canned salmon!) were able to get Noodle to his foster mom’s house.

Noodle wasn’t sure what he got himself into that first week inside. He cursed his love of yummy food and Temptations treats. But once he realized that he was safe, warm, and there was a never-ending supply of food he understood that his predicament maybe wasn’t so bad after all. Since then, he has blossomed into the sweetest cat who insists on pets and kisses on his forehead.

If you had to ask Noodle what his favorite things in life are (besides being warm and having a never-ending supply of Temptations) he would tell you a mouse covered in catnip, his mylar ball to bat around, and laying on his back spread eagle with his belly to the air. He also enjoys chasing after his mouse on a wand and head butting you for attention if you’re otherwise engaged.

Noodle had to fend for himself for a long time and would be best in a quiet home without any other animals or children. While he’s done wonderfully in his foster home, he will still require his new family to be patient with him when he moves in with them. Bonus points if you work from home because Noodle is a super social guy who doesn’t like being left alone for too long and will tell you with his meows that he requires lovin'.

Additional adoption info

Tails High offers a a Foster-To-Adopt program when there are special considerations for adding a new cat to your household. FTA allows you to do have adequate time for a staged introduction to the new kitty in your home with other pets or family members. This trial basis as a foster parent before finalizing the adoption can range from 14-30 days depending on what our Adoption Team recommends and approves. Foster-To-Adopt ensures the new kitty is a good fit for you and your family, your current pets, and the Tails High cat or kitten(s) you’ve selected. Our goal is to make every effort to match people with the cats or kittens that will develop a lifelong bond.

We provide age appropriate vet care for all of the cats and kittens in our care at the time of adoption. This can vary depending on if you are adopting a kitten, an adult or senior cat. In most cases, kitties are spayed/neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccines (Rabies/FVRCP), FELV/FIV combo tested, given worm prevention and they have been microchipped. While we get the kitties off to their best start, we recommend our cats and kittens establish vet care once adopted within 60 days of going to their new home and provide the medical records to get set up with your primary vet.

Visit our web site to complete an adoption application. or send an email to us at meow@tailshigh.org and a Tails High representative will contact you promptly.

More about this rescue

Tails High Cat Rescue is a foster home-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit run 100% by passionate volunteers, helping cats and kittens in the Washington Metropolitan area, based in Alexandria, Virginia. All of our cats and kittens are in loving foster homes until they are ready for adoption. We do not have a physical shelter space and depend on the kindness of our volunteers to open their homes and hearts to kitties in need in order to fulfill our mission.

All our cats and kittens come from various backgrounds and beginnings. As we say, every cat deserves a loving advocate, so our kitties can be very different. We work very hard to provide excellent vet care from the time a cat or kitten comes into rescue. Additionally, we triage what each kitty needs from us in their foster home, prior to making them available for adoption. Because of the time we put into getting to know each and every one of our cats, we are specially positioned to be able to find their best match in a forever home. We take time to get to know their personalities, likes/dislikes and needs before sending them off to their future families. Each of cats and kittens are spayed/neutered prior to going to their forever home because we are adamantly concerned with doing our part to stop the overpopulation of cats in our communities. Spaying and neutering when age appropriate is key to ensuring the health of your cat and also stoping the cycle of reproduction. We also ensure our cats and kittens have age appropriate core vaccines to protect them from illnesses and get them started on a healthy path prior to adoption. We combo test our cats and kittens for feline leukemia and FIV and would disclose test results at the time of adoption. Our kitties are also microchipped prior to adoption to ensure they have added security should they ever get away from their family, but we do not permit our cats to ever be outdoor. As a “cage-free” shelter, our cats are fostered in homes with other cats, dogs, and children when possible. We spend a lot of time playing and cuddling with our rescue kitties, as well as socializing them, and making sure they learn to love their people as much as their people love them. We believe we have a cat for everyone, if they are ready to love unconditionally and prove they are committed to a cat as a family member to cherish for their lifetime.
