My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi I'm Snoopy! I am an 8 year old Chihuahua who came to POA from a neglect situation with my three housemates (be sure to check out Butch, Dee Dee, and Honey too!). I was emaciated, flea ridden, with tons of fur loss - I only weighed 5lbs and did not feel well at all. Fast forward after lots of TLC, food, and a newly established Chihuahua wardrobe of sweaters, I have gained almost 2lbs, have been regrowing fur, and am ready for my furever home.

I adore people and being held and snuggled. I am used to living with multiple other Chihuahuas and am happy to entertain other kind and friendly tiny canine friends. I am older kid tested and approved! I will need help with continued housebreaking, but I am a smart, food motivated boy that is eager to learn!

We do have a screening and application process. Protectors of Animals requires a veterinarian check before any adoption.

One of our experienced Placement Team members will meet with you and show you the cat, kitten or dog you are interested in, or will guide you towards cats, kittens or dogs that are appropriate for your home environment. We will discuss with you the background of the cat, kitten or dog and what special needs or requirements he or she may have. We will happily take the time to carefully answer any questions you have or discuss any concerns.

POA does not charge an adoption “fee.” It costs POA anywhere from $100 and $400, or more, per dog or cat or kitten to make them well and prepare them for adoption. We are an all-donation organization and we rely on adoption donations to help us continue our work. When you adopt a cat or dog, we will ask for a donation. POA was formed in 1975 to rescue abandoned, abused and stray cats and dogs. Today we are one of the oldest and most respected animal welfare organizations in the northeast. POA is here to stay!
