My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

EXPERIENCED FOSTER, FOSTER-TO-ADOPT, OR ADOPTER NEEDED

This handsome Poodle (or mix) was an unclaimed stray at a pound, and we think we know why. Sweet Jamie shows all the signs of having been handled roughly and used solely for breeding, without knowing what it’s like to be a loved family pet.

Jamie is about 3 years of age and weighs approximately 50 pounds. Unbearably smelly and dirty when we got him, Jamie had a grooming appointment, where he cleaned up nicely with a bath and shave. He’s quite a timid boy but has no aggression, just a fear of trusting humans.

We’re looking for an experienced caregiver for Jamie, whether it’s a temporary foster home or a permanent one. His caregiver will require an understanding of what Jamie has lived through, and know that his healing journey will take time and patience. We’re hopeful for a quiet and calm home with a single or couple ready to work with Jamie and reap the reward of seeing him evolve into a beloved family pet. Jamie’s soft eyes reveal that he yearns for a more “normal” life with people who will love him. Will you help him learn how to wag his tail and be happy?

If you’re interested in providing a forever home, please complete the adoption questionnaire on our website at www.kikodogrescue.ca. If you would like to offer to be a temporary foster only, please complete the temporary foster home questionnaire. You can also send us a PM or email us at info@kikodogrescue.ca with any questions you may have. We are active in the Greater Montreal and Eastern Ontario areas.

Additional adoption info

If you are interested in adopting a Kiko dog, please e-mail us. You will be asked to complete an adoption application so that we can get to know you better. A home visit is also mandatory, often with the dog that interests you. Our adoption fee is $650 for adult dogs and $750 for puppies under a year old, and all our dogs are examined by a veterinarian, defleaed, dewormed*, vaccinated, sterilized and also tested for heartworm and lyme disease. *Please note that puppies adopted at a young age may require ongoing deworming for up to six months. Although this is a relatively inexpensive treatment, Kiko is unable to cover this and will only take care of deworming while the puppy is under the care of the rescue.

More about this rescue

Kiko Dog Rescue and Adoptions is a small non-profit rescue group located west of Montreal near the Quebec/Ontario border and is named after a little black Pug rescued from a puppy mill. We are dedicated to helping dogs that have found themselves homeless, whether they are from a pound, puppy mill or a home surrender, by placing them in the loving forever homes they so deserve. All dogs that come into our rescue receive whatever veterinary care they require, including everything from dentistry to surgery to help correct an uncomfortable or painful medical condition. In many cases, the adoption fee is not enough to cover a dog's vet bill. If you would like to help us by making a donation towards our vet bill, please click on the Paypal button. Thank you!

Our dogs are not kept at a shelter. We rely on the generosity of foster families. If you are not ready for a permanent adoption and would like to consider fostering on a temporary basis, please contact us for more information. Food and veterinary care is provided by Kiko—all you need to provide is a warm loving haven.
