Our sweet Blankie....her story begins in Honduras where 100's of dogs and cats were abandoned at a shelter. The conditions they were living in were horrible. Many dogs did not make it.
Luckily for Blankie and 100's of other dogs, they did survive. A group of women got together and decided to get each and every one of the dogs and cats into the USA and into rescue's that would address their medical/emotional needs. The story of this large scale rescue effort can be found on our Facebook page "Me and My Shadow Dog Rescue". Scroll down our posts to March of 2024 which is when this effort started. Even the Disney channel got involved and made a couple of episodes covering some of the special needs dogs.

When Blankie was taken in by Me and My Shadow, she was heartworm positive. She went through the difficult and painful heartworm treatment which includes painful injections to kill off the heartworms living in her heart. She survived and is now thriving.

Blankie is a very playful girl. She knows how to have a good time no matter where she is at - in the house with her people or out in the yard chasing butterflies.
She is full of joy and absolutely adorable. She is physically gorgeous but her personality makes her even more beautiful. We are expecting her DNA results any day now and will finally know what mix of breeds has made her so beautiful.
Blankie is housetrained and crate trained. She lives in a foster home with many other dogs and does well but is dog selective at initial meetings. She would do best in a home with her buddy Petunia(see below).
We would really like Blankie to be adopted alongside her buddy Petunia. Petunia came from Honduras also.

A home visit is required to be sure it's a safe environment for the pet; i.e., no escape routes or other dangers.

More about this rescue

Our MIssion: Rescue abused, neglected, abandoned dogs. Address their medical needs and provide temporary homes until they are adopted.

Spay/neuter, vaccinate, microchip all dogs that come into Me and My Shadow Dog Rescue, if needed.

Find good loving forever homes for these rescued dogs.

Assist small towns in NM with spaying/neutering of resident’s dogs through low-income voucher programs or mobile vet services.

Provide needed medical care for senior dogs with the goal to either make them adoptable or provide them with hospice care at a Me and My Shadow Dog Rescue foster home or sponsorship at a senior dog sanctuary.

We are an all-volunteer, no-kill, foster-based rescue organization.
