My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Ruby is a sweet, fun loving, young female Border Collie mix that is looking for her forever home. She is 2 yrs. old and weighs 26 lbs. Ruby is a very high energy youngster that is enthusiastic about everything! She loves to play fetch with her foster family, along with rough and tumble races with her Border Collie and Aussie foster home buddies. Ruby loves to go for hikes in the woods and for walks in the neighborhood. She loves to stay close with her people, share lap time, snuggles and belly rubs! She walks well on a leash and rides well in a crate in the car.

Ruby loves to explore new adventures but is sometimes insecure when meeting new people or dogs. She has shown some fear and reactivity toward young men and small children by barking and will need slow introductions. She has lived with other dogs and got along well with them, and currently gets along well with her foster family’s two dogs. Ruby has not been tested around cats. She has a high prey drive around squirrels and rabbits, so will probably not be a good fit with cats or other small animals. Any children in the home should be at least 12 yrs. old and understand how to interact with a herding breed dog.

Ruby sleeps in a crate overnight and while she’s home alone up to four hours. She has shown some separation anxiety from time to time while home alone. Ruby was new to being an indoor dog and has learned most house manners since being in her foster home for the past several months, but will need continued supervision and training. Ruby is eager to learn and is easily corrected with gentle, clear, communication and positive training methods.

The best home for Ruby will be with calm owners that are home a lot, have a fenced yard, have time, patience and knowledge of herding breeds and know how to accommodate their high energy. She will also do well with a well-balanced dog playmate with a similar play style, high energy level, and size. A good introduction to the adopter’s dog(s) and family members is required before adoption.

Ruby has been fully vetted, spayed, microchipped, is up to date on shots, and current on heartworm and flea & tick prevention. Ruby is being fostered in Fort Mill, SC, in the Charlotte, NC metro area. If you think Ruby will be a good fit for your home and family, please fill out an application with Australian Shepherds Furever.

If Ruby sounds perfect for you , please fill out our application:

There is an additional $20 microchip fee which includes registration and transfer to her new furever family.

More about this rescue

Nancy Pearlman-Gonzalez, Founder and CEO, created Australian Shepherds Furever (ASF), a non-profit organization to promote the education, rescue, fostering and adoption of the Australian Shepherd breed of dog.
In July 2012, Australian Shepherds Furever (ASF) initiated as a page on Facebook. Hoping to have 1,000 members at the end one year, ASF quickly grew into a network of more than 58,000 dedicated individuals striving to provide aid and refuge to Aussies all over the country.
From these phenomena, the website www.australianshepherdsfurever.org was developed to educate the public on this intelligent and beautiful breed, and provide resources to those seeking help or willing to contribute to the Adopt, Save and Foster (ASF) philosophy. ASF filed for non- profit status in July 2013 and obtained its status in July 2014 and through proactive networking, partnerships, training/rehabilitation and fundraising, ASF has saved the lives of countless dogs to include those with Parvo, Mange, Tick Disease, Cancer, Pneumonia, broken limbs and some of the most extreme cases of abuse that one could imagine. ASF focuses on the Aussies that most would turn their backs on. ASF is in its 5th year and over 1,910 Australian Shepherds have been rescued from high kills shelters, abusive owners and other high-risk situations.
We, as humans, have a responsibility to uphold, shelter and care for those beings that are less fortunate, that are simply cast away. Thanks to proactive individuals who work collectively, Aussies nationwide are being given a chance at a better life through Australian Shepherds Volunteers are an integral component of ASF for the maintenance of the website, screening potential fosters and adopters, providing training, fundraising, data base management, networking and transporting of recued Aussies. All Volunteers; Adopters, Fosters, Trainers and Transporters etc. are carefully screened and vetted to assure the safe and vital placement of these dogs into furever homes. We currently have over 170 foster families and over 160 dogs in foster care nationwide. We have professional trainers to work with our dogs with severe behavioral issues. We also have a team of Rescue Coordinators, Medical Advisors, Fundraisers, Regional Reps, Application Processors, Data Base Managers, Social Media Managers, Microchip and ID tag Registrars and Ground and Air Transport Coordinators that work together to save these beautiful dogs.
