My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Megan is such a darling little girl. She is so sweet and affectionate. She loves people and attention! She was surrendered to us with 2 other frenchies who sadly had kept them outside in their backyard the majority of the time. We are working getting her adjusted to a normal dog routine. Moreover, we have noticed she has the puppy tendency to want to jump and teeth hands for attention. She would do best in a home who is familiar/experienced with caring for Frenchies who can give her the patience and training to get her accumulated.

Be ready to adopt.
Adoptions can happen quickly so be prepared for our call, only apply for dogs that every family member in the home wants, and wait to apply until you return from your vacation. Please fill out our online application and our adoption counselor will reach out to you to discuss meeting your new family member.

French Bulldogs are loving, playful, and sociable dogs that thrive on companionship. They are generally low-maintenance in grooming and have charming personalities. Their loving nature makes them amazing companions, whether for families or individuals.

Health Considerations
As a brachycephalic breed, Frenchies are prone to certain health challenges, including:
- Breathing issues due to their short snouts, which can worsen in heat or during strenuous activity.
- Skin and food allergies requiring dietary management and skincare routines.
- Joint problems like hip dysplasia or intervertebral disc disease (IVDD).
- Higher susceptibility to overheating, requiring temperature control and limited activity in hot weather.

While they bring endless joy, potential owners should be prepared for regular veterinary care and possible higher medical costs to ensure their health and happiness. With proper care, French Bulldogs make delightful and devoted pets.

Additional adoption info

***Appointments preferred***

The majority of our dogs are in foster care. Most of the time they are only brought in the shop if an application to meet the dog is approved and an appointment is made.

More about our process:
If you're interested in adopting, please fill out a rescue questionnaire. We do not place dogs on a first come first serve basis, but rather to the home best suited for them. Please be thorough in your answers.

If application is approved, we will call you to discuss matching you to your new pet. It may take up to several days before you hear from us.

Then we will set up an appointment. If you decide to adopt, there is an adoption fee and contract.

Please note: If we get an influx of applications for the specific dog you are interested in, you may not get a call from us. We encourage applicants to list several dogs they are interested in.

Shelter Hope Pet Shop is located in Janss Marketplace, 275 N. Moorpark Rd, #193G, in Thousand Oaks. We're located between Gold's Gym and Nordstrom Rack inside the Janss Marketplace mall. We are open 11am to 5pm Wednesday through Saturday, and 11am to 4pm on Sundays. We also do off-site events as much as possible to get more animals adopted.

More about this rescue

We are a volunteer-based pet shop that carries shelter animals available for in-store adoption. Janss Marketplace donates the space to us, we have amazing volunteers, and we pull animals from high-kill shelters, and showcase them in a busy mall environment, where they gain great exposure and find loving new homes.

We have found over 15,000 homes for shelter animals since our opening in November 2011.

SHPS is part of the Shelter Hope Project, which strives to make this the business model for all mall pet shops. We hope to abolish all puppy-mill pet shops, help find homes for the countless pets in our shelters that face being euthanized, and educate the public on how we can ALL help reduce future shelter population.
