My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Dakota is a sweet and loving 1-year-old Bully mix who came to us as a stray from Sumpter. From the moment he arrived, his friendly and affectionate nature stole our hearts! Though we're not sure of Dakota's past, we know one thing for sure-he's all about love and connection.

This charming boy knows how to impress with his polite ways, often sitting in front of you and gazing up with those soulful eyes, asking for some love. He's a quick learner and already knows commands like "sit" and "paw," and he's very food-motivated-meaning he'll do just about anything for a tasty treat!

Dakota is full of energy but doesn't let that fool you-he knows how to pace himself and tires out after a good play session. His favorite game is fetch, and he's a pro at bringing the ball right back to you (good boy!). He especially enjoys playing with his best buddy Carolina, although she often outlasts him.

Dakota could be a great fit for a home with another dog, as long as they're matched in personality and energy. The FMAR dog staff will be happy to help with the introduction process if you have a dog at home. He's still working on his potty training, especially overnight, but we're confident in his ability to catch on quickly with a little patience and consistency. We are unsure of his behavior around cats and small children at this time.

Dakota may be a young guy, but he's already a distinguished gentleman who would make the perfect companion for the right home. With his playful nature, loving personality, and willingness to please, Dakota is ready to meet his forever family. Will you be the one to give him that chance?

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you would like to meet Dakota please submit an application for him on our website https://www.friendsofmichigan.org/adoptable-dogs. He is neutered, up to date on all age appropriate vaccines, heartworm negative, microchipped, and on monthly flea, tick, and heartworm prevention. His adoption fee is $250, which helps cover the cost of the medical care he has received.

**Please note that the breed listed for each of our dogs is a rough estimate unless DNA results are provided in their Bio. All strays have rough estimates on their age based on the condition of their teeth.
Each dog is different, so each adoption is different. Our adoption process might require multiple visits to the shelter before our dogs can go home. Or they may be ready on the first visit. It really depends on the individual dog and the potential adopters. Once we receive your application, the Dog Staff will contact you to discuss meeting our dogs.

More about this shelter

We are a nonprofit, no-kill animal shelter comprised mostly of volunteers. We take in cats and dogs from local shelters and the public who can no longer care for their pets. Each of the volunteers at FMAR has a tremendous amount of love for animals and simply wants to do what they can to ensure that as many animals as possible find a forever home. Until then, each animal has a home at FMAR indefinitely.
