My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Little John is a loveable, clumsy, enthusiastic oaf of a dog. He is 7 months old, and already 115 pounds. He has been castrated, microchipped, and vaccinated. We are working hard on leash manners and training - he is already well kennel trained, rides calmly in the car, and loves other dogs (though sometimes his approach to new potential playmates could use a little less enthusiasm). He does not chase horses, but has been known to run after rabbits. Unfortunately, Little John also has a couple of fairly serious medical issues. He has dysplasia in both elbows, resulting in advanced arthritis already. He has had surgery on one elbow and will have surgery on the other in about 3 weeks (once he's well recovered from the first). Surgery will make his elbows much more comfortable, but because of the existing arthritis, he will need to be on joint supplements and kept lean for life. He also has a condition called Myasthenia Gravis, in which the transmitter chemical from his nerves cannot properly signal the muscle cells. This results in rapid muscle fatigue and uncoordination. He is on (3 times a day) medication for this condition, and managing very well, but the medication does cost about $50/month, and he may need to be on it for life. Many dogs with MG will have a spontaneous remission about 6 months after diagnosis, but we have no way of knowing if Little John will be one of them, so best to plan for long-term medication. Obviously, due to his medical concerns, Little John will not be the ideal dog for many people, but perhaps you have a special home for a special dog? Or perhaps you just want to help out with his surgery expenses while he waits for adoption? If so, please contact Jes at docjesadams@gmail.com or 509-690-7343.
