Story
Bruce is a fun, energetic and charming 7 yr. old, 22 lb. Basenji/Terrier Mix who loves a game of fetch and squeaky toys. He already knows sit, stay, crawl, and come. He is very smart and easy to train when motivated by a treat. Bruce is outgoing and friendly with people, except when he forgets that it isn't his job to guard the home from strangers. He is working with a trainer on that issue and making great progress. He is a volunteer favorite because of his quirky, fun personality. He would do best as the only dog in a fairly quiet adult home with dog experience. Bruce was adopted 3 yrs ago and brought back due to an unexpected change in his family's living situation. He would be very grateful for a second chance. Bruce's Adoption fee is $300 and includes neuter, microchip and current vaccinations. Story
How this pet arrived: This pet was brought in by a community member on August 11, 2024 Why this pet is the one for you:Meet Van Halen, a handsome young guy who's ready to find a new pad to crash in. He was found running around in traffic, and a kind community member brought him to us. Naturally, he's out of his familiar environment and would love a place to decompress and feel safe. Van Halen can be shy with new people and needs time and space to come into his own. He's also particular about how he's handled, so a family that can read his body language would be ideal. We don't know much else about him-how he feels about cats and other dogs are things you can discover as you get to know each other. If Van Halen checks all the boxes for you, bring a leash, collar, and take him home today! Primary Color: Tan Weight: 42.6 Age: 2yrs 0mths 1wks

YiYi is immediately at risk of being euthanized and we want to get her but we need to secure a foster. Help us save her by opening your heart and your home!! Her current owners moved into a senior community and their new neighbors have already taken action and poor YiYi will not be allowed there. Most likely, the community CC&Rs have stated rules and regulations about dogs made even more strict by the ‘senior living’ aspect. There’s not much that can be done without an expensive -not guaranteed- battle. At that point, the best alternative that was concluded for YiYi’s future was for her to be put down. Put down?!? What?!? That’s no future… Ughh.. sometimes there are no words. None of that matters anymore. It’s in the past. We want to help her have a future. Please let us know ASAP if you can help us by fostering this sweet girl or are interested in taking her home FURever! FOSTER: www.dmdr.org/foster ADOPT: www.dmdr.org/adopt

Story
Meet Penny! She originally transferred to us a young pup from the Chula Vista Animal Care Facility in 2018. Adopted in 2018, Penny returned to us in July of this year. She was originally listed as a Labrador/Boxer mix pup, but seeing her full adult size and markings, we now have her listed as a Basenji mix. Penny's previous home was not experienced with her anxiety which compounded over the years and became fear-based reactivity. We recommend reviewing her origin & progress stories below: Penny's Return: https://www.facebook.com/heartofgoldsshelter/posts/pfbid02whoN43cDPKKKExEqBHq8kNDkwHXBJbQxJfXndK3EhSgGXJ5puaaSwnpfwezrsCRFl Penny's Progress: https://www.facebook.com/heartofgoldsshelter/posts/pfbid02QEToHtcCTP6NbKebvtiZs3yPU3yPAyDeFVDvthiYo8fxSMV9SxP4qRALxSXyDm94l Penny's most recent update: https://www.facebook.com/heartofgoldsshelter/posts/pfbid02F4tFELzbyTDVdd4mjFi6VAHEek4hCMMTZpzY5B3p7oNsMDboHESyawFPyWrQN63Ul Behavioral considerations: With dedication to her training with CRT K9 Dog Training in a foster home setting and being surrounded by those experienced with the nuances of dog behavior, Penny is thriving and enjoys her foster home filled with 4 dogs, another foster dog (Tank), and 3 cats. While there are multiple management techniques in place that help her peacefully co-exist in a multi-animal home, Penny will do best in a home that has either: -No pets -An owner with extensive experience with safely managing a multi-dog (any size) or multi-animal household -An owner experienced with reactive dogs Penny develops a heavy attachment to those she loves. She adores her foster mom and with love, patience, and a structured setting, she will also look at her future mom/dad as though you are her sun, her moon, and all her stars. A loyal gal indeed! We want her to succeed in this second chance at adoption and are looking for an adopter that is not just excited about her adorable face and kissable cheeks but has the experience and means to care for a dog that isn't looking for the mental overstimulation that dog parks provide. Penny prefers to get her exercise with her people and dogs she has built trust with, and who are respectful of her boundaries. We as humans can definitely empathize with that! While Penny does enjoy cuddle time, down time, and lots of kisses, she is quite the track star and loves to sprint, explore, and fetch during play time! A home what will keep her active in a safe & controlled environment is where she will thrive! We will send a package of professional training sessions to her future home, to give Penny her best foot forward in a new environment. A trainer coming directly to an adopter's home for these sessions will ensure that she thrives and is helped along through another life change. Regarding COVID-19 and other contagious illnesses: Please reschedule any visits if you are sick.

Story
Jackie came in originally because she had been ran over by a car and needed a safe place to heal for a few months while her leg and hip were mending. When a dog comes in in her condition they go on bed rest where they can just focus on catching up on sleep, a soft bed, and plenty of food. Within a month we noticed she was starting to get a little on the heavier side so we put her on a diet. But we quickly realize that she was getting larger and it was nothing to do with how much food she was eating. She was pregnant! The accident must have happened shortly after she conceived. But in these situations because of all the trauma and surgeries that she had been through the puppies with more than likely be still born. But she was so far along already there was nothing we can do but watch and wait. In the middle of the night she gave birth to six perfectly healthy babies! She weaned them at only one month and decided she was done dealing with them a few weeks later. She was not cut out to be a mom but rather wanted to live her life freely and with no responsibilities. So we put her in a group of other like-minded dogs and she flourished! She loves playing and investigating everything! She is very intelligent and absolutely adores snuggles!

Story
PLEASE COMPLETE OUR ADOPTION APPLICATION AT WWW.LOVEBUGSRESCUE.ORG IF YOU'D LIKE TO BE CONSIDERED FOR ADOPTION: Shelter life was no match for this cutie pie, so we scooped Jax to safety. He’s now tucked away in one of our awesome foster homes. Jax is just a puppy and loves playing with his toys and working on his brain games. He is a sweet natured boy who is a little bit shy initially. He’s very curious and will come up to sniff and investigate. Jax is a fun little co-pilot and rides will in the car and he enjoys going on small adventures. He’s relatively quiet and well mannered in the home. He is interested in other dogs on leash and greets them nicely. We think he would love to have another dog in his forever home. Jax is a 6 month old, 6 lb Chihuahua mix (maybe some Basenji or Min pin splashed in there). The best type of home for Jax would be one with a little less coming and going, and a secure environment with an owner that has time to do a little confidence building with him. He is going to make a wonderful addition to a very lucky family! Jax adoption fee is $350 and includes his neuter, registered microchip, first puppy vaccine, deworming and flea treatment. He was rescued from the Long Beach shelter and came to us super shy and closed off. Tai’s forever home will need to have another outgoing dog, to show him how to be a dog, and a human who has a lot of love and patience to help bring out his personality full time. He is a very playful dog once he gets to know you and would do best in a low-traffic home. Having another dog is a must for Tai.
