Story
Looking for an active, smart boy who would love a structured home with plenty of exercise?  Chevy is your guy!     Chevy has been in our program for a few years now as he needs to go to that perfect home that understands him and his needs.  You see, Chevy is a working/herding breed of dog and was on his own to fend for himself for so long on the rough streets of Houston that he's leery of people until he gets to know you.  Chevy had been living under a truck for a while (it was a Chevy) while a Scout's Honor volunteer was working to gain his trust. He kept going every day to feed him and give him some attention. The business near where he was let him come onto their property and provided him some shelter.  Unfortunately, because there was a busy street nearby, Chevy got bumped by a few cars when he was out and about and lost a few teeth as a result.  Luckily, he did not sustain any significant injuries, and just needed to eat and get a bath.  Fast-forward a few years, Chevy is in boarding and loves other dogs and loves to play !  He is a high energy dog, but is also very smart and alert. He needs A LOT of exercise and positive reinforcement, but will pick up very quickly on what you are teaching him. He would be a great dog for agility or flyball!!  As long as you keep him busy and challenged he will impress you with how well he can learn things. He just wants someone who will give him the direction, attention and structure he wants/needs. He would make a great dog for an active home with NO kiddos.  Kiddos are just too unpredictable for this guy.  He also needs a home that understands how to properly introduce him to new people and watch his cues.  Chevy can be very protective of his people and area, so proper intros are a must.  He would do best in a home that does not have a lot of new people coming in/out. True to his Kelpie/Basenji breed, Chevy likes to herd and run and play .  Check out this video of him just having a grand time running - look at those turns!      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L81s-TWX9SA&feature=youtu.be  Kelpie's/Basenji's are unique problem solvers and will find a way to do whatever he deems necessary.  True to these breed, he will also be fierlcy protective of his family (getting back to proper intros).  Chevy fits these traits to a T, and anyone who knows and loves the herding breeds would just adore little Chevy!!   Chevy is up to date on vaccinations, neutered and micro-chipped.   Please contact us at info@scoutshonor.org if you are interested in fostering or adopting this precious guy!  You can read all about our foster and adoption process, as well as make a donation for his care, on our website at www.scoutshonor.org.    Scout's Honor Rescue is a 501c3 whose primary focus is rescuing dogs from the euthanasia list from high kill TX shelters. EIN # is 87-0773073 Follow us on Facebook at www.facebook.com/scoutshonorrescue or Instagram at www.instagram.com/scoutshonorrescue We have multiple ways to donate: Venmo:  @ScoutsHonor-Rescue Paypal: www.paypal.me/scoutshonorrescue   https://scoutshonor.org/take-action/donate/ We are strictly volunteer based, no salaries are paid and 100% of donations go towards rescuing dogs August 17, 2024, 12:06 am

Story
Hello, I'm Ralph. I'm a sweet, friendly, loyal, gentle, smart, playful, cuddly, and mellow guy. I'm always up for a game of fetch, or a good cuddle on the couch. I'm smart too - I know lots of tricks and commands. I'm gentle with everyone I meet and I'm always eager to make new friends. I can get a little anxious when I'm left alone, but with some patience and love, I know I can overcome it. I'm looking for a forever home where I can give and receive lots of love. Will you be my new family?

Story
Description McCarty is a red poofy furrball with gold undertones who looks like and has the character of a Shiba Inu, but is bigger. Knows his name and is very smart. Personality McCarty is a loverboy who gives gentle kisses, and would be happy to receive your caresses the whole day long. He wants affection and if he sees your hand or your lap he positions his head in an accessible way for you to most easily stay in physical touch him. He is not a velcro dog and loves to go into his crate for quiet time by himself, but if he sees you giving attention to another dog he comes running! Don't forget to pay him attention too or will get jealous. Shiba Inus are not known for being especially cuddly, but McCarty smashes that stereotype. He can be stubborn like a Shiba Inu though. He stares up at you with his big brown eyes to encourage you not to stop with the pets. You won't want to stop bc he has the softest fuzziest ears and fur. His finders said he is a sweet guy, who would eat gently out of your hand when he lived on the street. He is also smart and obedient and knows his Background McCarty was found outside of an industrial business on the NE side of Houston off McCarty street. He was a stray there for a few weeks in the middle of a cold snap in winter. Employees gave him a covered box with blankets as the best they could do for him. The daughter of his finders is a vet who got him vaccinated and transfered him to a GNAR foster home. He was skinny and beat up and had deep lacerations from dog fights. He needed a long recovery time with his foster home to heal his wounds and learn to trust other dogs again. He now loves to play and wrestle with other dogs and welcomes new females and fixed male dogs without hesitation. He is still scared of new intact male dogs who have not been neutered, but will come around to being best friends after being properly introduced. Compatibility Other Dogs - yes Cats - probably Kids - Most Please contact GNARHouston@gmail.com if interested in meeting her
