Story
Hi, I'm Boomer! I know my name makes me sound like a big tough buy, but I have that name because I have a BIG personality for my size! I'm only about 30 pounds, so I'm a perfect fit to go just about anywhere! I've just arrived here at the Ark, but my social calendar is already pretty full because I'm a friendly guy and love making new friends. The volunteers here just can't get enough of my butter-soft ears and my wide-tracker Bassett feet! They say I'm positively irresistible! When I arrived at the Ark, we played the 'guess what breed I am' game, and the most guesses were that I'm a Bassett Hound/Beagle mix, but I know that's just a guess - I know what I am, I'm a Purebred Mix-Breed!! **Ark Rescue dogs are available for adoption to homes in the Alabama and Tennessee Valley area only. We do require a secure fenced-in yard to adopt our larger dogs.

Story
Nacho is a rescue that has been with us for over a year. He is approximately 2 years old. Nacho is a basset/boxer mix with the personality of a great dane. He has his lazy moments, fun zoomie moments, and his goofy/mischievous moments. Nacho is a scent hound at his core, he follows his nose wherever he goes. He is a cuddler that needs an experienced handler who can give him lots of one on one time to smooth out the rough spots. 90% of the time Nacho is easy going. Our challenges historically came from his background as a stray. Early on there were challenges with food aggression and we worked to establish boundaries with him and our other dog. This was a success but it came at the cost of some scratches and a few aggressive nips between Nacho and the other dog. Most recently he showed aggression toward our cat which recently resulted in the cat taking a trip to the emergency vet. I would not recommend Nacho as a dog that would pair well with a small dog, cat, or small child.
