Story
Meet Maddie, the sweetest doggie around! She is eager to find her forever home. She is the friendliest girl and bonds quickly with her peeps! As far as other animals, Maddie would prefer to be the Queen of the Castle, but she will definitely be your royal gem! This lady LOVES belly rubs! Maddie crates on command, sits, waits, comes when called, walks good on leash, knows "drop it" and "leave it", she is housebroken, she will sniff the trash so you have to watch that, and she does not jump on people. Maddie is a bit reserved. She likes to lay around but she is also a cuddler, too. She's not really interested in toys. She loves laying on the sofa and watching tv/movies. If you need a faithful companion, Maddie is your girl. Please fill out an adoption application to meet Maddie!

Story
Thelma Lou and her sister Ellie Mae spent their whole lives surviving. Not thriving, not loved, just surviving. At 8 years old, they were found living in a filthy pig pen, fighting for scraps, covered in dirt, and starved of both food and affection. A Good Samaritan saw them and knew they needed help—before it was too late. Helpless Hounds took them in, and what we found broke our hearts. Both girls are frail, worn down, and exhausted from years of neglect. But Thelma Lou—she is in truly terrible shape. Her teeth are rotting, her body is weak, and worst of all, she has severe, unmanaged diabetes. She also has a severe UTI, and both sisters need full wellness exams, bloodwork, vaccines, and preventative care. Update on our girl Thelma! Thelma has officially started insulin treatment, and both she and her sister are settling into their foster homes, working on gaining much-needed weight. We’re incredibly grateful to have found a foster experienced with diabetic dogs, ensuring Thelma gets the specialized care she needs. She has a curve test scheduled, after which the vet will determine when she’ll be ready for a dental procedure and spay. However, before any of that, we need to get her UTI cleared up, and thankfully, she’s on medication for it now. Her foster shared that Thelma is drinking nonstop—so much that her belly fills up like a basketball before she lets it all out in what feels like a never-ending river of pee. 😭 We know this is all part of the process, and with the right treatment, she’ll start to feel better soon.
