Almost every single day either Duke's foster mom or foster dad says, 'Duke is a really good dog!' - because he is! Please be sure to check out the video clip below. He is a well behaved, good looking fellow. Duke has been in his foster home for several months now and his disposition has been exemplary. Although he is definitely into lizards and squirrels his recall is amazingly good and he will run to you and sit down right in front of you. Most often he has a happy grin on his face. He also crates very well as long as there's a promise of at least a small treat for him when he goes in. His crate is where he has his meals and sleeps at night. House training has been excellent from day one. Duke is moderate energy but really needs a fenced yard and he could jump a 4 ft fence easily. He does like to run but also enjoys just lying about surveying his property and watching for the squirrels and lizards! He loves affection and, although he doesn't pester or beg for it, he's ready anytime you are! Duke is wonderful at just curling up next to you on the couch, content to be at your side. Deacon is a little guy at just 20 lbs and he weighed much less than that when he was found wandering in Georgia. He's got a hearty appetite despite missing almost all of his teeth. In his foster home he is with several other dogs and gets along well with everyone. Deacon appears to be house trained and loves his doggie bed and does well in a crate too. He actually prefers sleeping in a dog bed to sleeping in bed with a human, and he's not particularly comfortable with being picked up. Deacon is heartworm negative and his bloodwork came back looking great. His heart and lungs sounded good and we moved forward with his neuter surgery and a good dental. His coat was so devitalized and he was so itchy that we also gave him a Cytopoint injection and now his coat and skin are looking so much better. Lack of care and poor nutrition are a thing of the past for this happy guy. With a past shadowed by fear and uncertainty, he has found his way into the warmth of a loving foster home. His gentle spirit shines through with every wag of his tail. Wary at first, he was cautiously approaching for a quick lick or sniff and now, although still tentative, he is seeking affection and reassurance, opening his heart to his foster dad's kindness. Vinny definitely enjoys playful romps with the other dogs and loves being outdoors. His housebreaking manners and lack of destructiveness when left outside of his crate when Dad is gone for an hour or two speaks volumes about his inherent desire to please. Vinny is becoming the dog he was meant to be! Though adjustment challenges lie ahead when he goes to a new home, Vinny's journey is one of hope and optimism. Vinny has just been treated for his heartworms and is recovering well. Her facial expressions speak volumes to you and you can tell in a minute that she is a sweetheart! She was originally very shy, but Wanda really does like people and enjoys getting attention so she overcame that fairly quickly. She has adjusted really well and is friendly with the other dogs in her foster home. She is good with the cats too. She likes to explore outside but slow and gentle exercise is fine with her and she does very well on leash. She loves a soft place to lie and particularly enjoys the couch. Wanda was treated for her heartworms and recovered splendidly. We have also enrolled him in a 6 week obedience class, but whatever time he has to attend before he is adopted will be well spent. He is very smart and learns quickly. Doodad is a little youngster with a lively personality. He is a sweet boy with a tough guy persona but truthfully he's inexperienced and a little uncertain. He is quite playful with several of the other dogs in his foster family. He does occasionally chase the cats so would be best either in a home without cats or with cats who will let him know who's boss. Yes, he is maybe only a little bit beagle, but he was in a very crowded shelter and definitely in danger of losing his life, and we just couldn't resist that cuteness. Doodad is housebroken in his current foster home as long as he is on a schedule or can use the dog door to go out to a fenced yard. He does well being crated while his foster mom is at work but definitely expects a reward for going in there. He is a bit of a velcro dog and will definitely snuggle. He is actually pretty good on leash and he loves to carry around shoes but will not chew them. His favorite things are walks, nibbling on plush toys (although he doesn't chew them up), and laying out in the sun. Sometimes he likes to stare up in the trees looking for squirrels. Napoleon is also a great cuddler, enjoys giving and receiving affection and is good with small children . He is making straight As in his foster home in house training and does not need to be crated when left alone, but he doesn't fuss if he is crated. Napoleon is great with other dogs and is quite playful - we've included a couple video clips below to show you his happy nature and his animated response to walk time!
