Story
Meet Opie!! Meet Opie! He was an owner who surrendered to a local shelter and needed rescue only because the stress of the shelter got to him. Opie is 4 yrs-old GS Malinois Dutch shepherd mix. Sadly he's lived a very confined neglected isolated sheltered life. In other words, he had lazy 💩 owners. As of 11/4, Opie is a sweet, gentle giant but reserved and timid. We have learned that allowing him to approach you on his time is best. 12/22 He loves his people once his trust is gained. Which takes 0 time and effort on the human part. 2/10 Everyone he has meets he has done awesome with. He is willing to try but does needs encouragement. He strives for guidance and needs consistency, routine, and simple daily exercise as well as structured discipline. He is a simple dog always wanting to please. But his confidence cannot be rushed instead when meeting any new folks he needs people to ignore him as if he's not present, do not approach, touch, talk to him or make eye contact and this alone makes meeting anyone easy and possible. 2/17 Opie thrives with companionship and desires physical and verbal acknowledgment from his people. He wants to belong and be part of his people every day life. No reactivity toward cats, or dogs, nor does he have any resource-guarding behaviors. He however is a follower and he needs constant guidance. Opie is good on a leash, still needs work but it's manageable. Very food and praise/affection motivated. 1/22 Opie is currently ongoing heartworm treatment and doing well. Opie is a dog that requires more than basic dog knowledge. He needs leadership and guidance and someone confident and in control at all times. To be continued: Opie is house and crate trained, neuteted, up to date on all appropriate core vaccines including lepto, corona, 3-year rabies, dewormed, fecal tested negative, microchipped, and on monthly heartworm flea/tick prevention. Opie like every AHS dog comes with our lifetime support. Updated: 2/26/2023 We believe training is an ongoing process that needs to be worked on daily. New issues that arise, need to be addressed and/or rewarded. Understanding that continued training is a lifetime commitment, is very important. Out-of-state adopters are welcome at the adopter's expense. Meet & Greets are required before proceeding with an adoption. We DO NOT ship any of our pets. Story
To understand the story of Vincent, you must understand what happened to his poor mother. WINDIGER FARMS ANIMAL RESCUE AND REHABILITATION Menu DOGS READY FOR ADOPTION Windiger Farms Animal Rescue and Rehabilitation REINA Reina is a fantastic, beautiful GSD. I would love to keep her for myself. I can’t, though. She is a medium to high energy dog. She is sometimes slightly dominating with other dogs, though I’ve noticed that behavior has leveled out as she has decompressed at our farm. She has met 6 of our dogs with only one very minor altercation (a growl and hackles up) with our more dominant female. I think she would do well with almost any dog with a SLOW INTRODUCTION. Her vet records have her as 1-2 years. She demonstrates a lot of puppy behaviors. She is obsessed with her toys and wants to share them with you. A lot 😆 She alternates between play mode and wanting to chill on the couch. She’s cuddly. She’s a very typical GSD and will be a great guardian dog. She is housetrained. She is current on vaccinations, spayed and microchipped. I really want this girl to have a good home. FRANK Frank is the absolute most fun and playful Corgi mix. His vet says he is about four years old. I am thinking his other half is Labrador, as he is high energy and loves to bring you toys. is adorably short legs, Frank is a medium size dog at about 40 lbs. Frank was pulled from an overcrowded shelter in Indiana along with a terrier mix named Possum. Though they have not spent their entire lives together, they are very bonded. I am willing to separate Frank and Possum, but I believe Frank would be sad as an only dog. Frank is not perfect (are any of us?) and will occasionally tear up toys or shoes if left unattended. I recommend crating him when he is left alone. He pulls a bit on the leash and would benefit from a no pull harness. I imagine Frank as being a great family dog. I feel so incredibly comfortable with him around my kids. He does not have a mean bone in his body. He is a precious soul that has been treated poorly his entire life, He needs that special someone to give him the forever home he so deserves. Frank is neutered and current on vaccinations. He did test as low level heartworm positive and is under treatment with the slow kill monthly kill method. His medications will go with him. Please consider adding Frank to your family. VIVIA AND HER PUPPIES Vivia was brought to us from Houston, TX as an urgent rescue, She was pregnant, infested with ticks and fleas, and had been shot multiple times with BB guns. Many of the pellets are so deeply embedded that they cannot be safely surgically removed. Vivia was provided emergency care on the way to our sanctuary. By the time she arrived. She was about 55 days pregnant and we knew from the x rays that she had at least nine living pups inside of her. On May 3rd, 2024, Vivia gave birth to ten beautiful pups. Sadly, one was a runt and did not survive. The other nine (6 boys and 3 girls) are healthy, thriving, socialized, playful and beautiful. While I have no proof of who the father is, I believe him to be the black and silver GSD or possible GSD mix that she was found with in Houston. Only genetic testing can reveal, but they certainly look like GSD pups and are large and vigorous. Even if they are mixed, genetic diversity makes for healthier pups. The puppies all look quite a bit like mom. Some have a bit of silver coloration mixed in. For the most part, they are largely black and tan and have Vivia’s amazing temperament. I was present for their birth and they have been handled daily ever since. I am following the current recommendation to keep the litter together until they are eight weeks old. Therefore, they will be available around July 3rd, 2024. These puppies deserve the best homes. They are so fortunate to be alive and I want every single one of them to have a wonderful life. My adoption fee for adults is normally $150, but the puppies will be a bit more at $250 each. They will be microchipped, have their first set of baby vaccines, receive a certificate of health if needed for interstate travel.
