Story
Say hello to Zelda! Zelda (aka Zelly Belly), is a gorgeous four year old Belgian Malinois. She is extremely loving and adores getting cuddles from her people, especially snuggling up on the couch.  Zelda is extremely smart and has high food drive, but her prey drive is even higher so a home without small animals would be best for this girl. She does well with other dogs with proper slow introductions, and is currently being fostered with male and female German Shepherds as well as a Dutch Shepherd and does great with all of them. She is such a sweet social girl! Zelda is not food possessive and does not resource guard her toys from her humans which is a great treat for a Malinois in a family environment. She is being fostered in a home with a seven year old and a fourteen year old and does great with both. She has also had visits from younger children and does well, but can get overexcited and accidentally knock them down so a home with children over five would probably be best for this sweet girl. Zelda would thrive in a breed savvy home that is willing to continue her training and give her lots of love. She craves attention and thinks she is a lap dog! She would also do well in a home with a yard for her to run out her ample energy.  Zelda is crate trained and walks well on a leash. She also rides well in a car. To see  this girl in person please fill out an application ! She can’t wait to meet you!!!! ##1866612##

Story
Riley is a 4 year old Belgian Shepherd and a great running partner. We got Riley when he was a 3 weeks old puppy, from my mother's friend. Riley is looking for a quiet house where he can be treated as another member of the family. He's active if you want to play, but will definitely let you rest if that is what you want. He likes being inside the house, but he also craves being outside. He's loving, but he also likes to have his own space. He is very friendly, but again, he likes his space and not always enjoys strangers putting hands on him everytime they want. He is not very food driven and usually eats once a day. He does take many supplements with his food to help with his grass allergies.

These pups are in Palo Alto, California too!

Story
Stewie is a charming, devoted and affectionate two-year-old boy with folks he knows and trusts. He completed a month-long training through Canine Purpose's Board and Traning program in Loomis and currently attends group classes with his foster families. This handsome boy has the brains and a big heart to match. He can be handful with a cheeky side making significant progress in impulse control while his handlers have learned that he's a boy who needs structure and thrives when his people give him clear direction. Stewie has two foster homes, switching between the households regularly.  Stewie's affectionate nature once he establishes a relationship with you means that you'll always have a best friend nearby, preferably leaning into you or snuggling while you watch TV or read and if allowed in bed with you. In his foster home with doggie mates, he sleeps free starting the night snuggled right in bed next to his humans to move off to a dog bed later in the night. In his foster home where he's a solo dog, he sleeps in his crate easily; knowing each households rules and following them.  Stewie has been working hard in his training sessions, mastering meeting strangers with an easy hi, learning a solid place command, working with multiple handlers on the desired heel position, and maintaining his learned skills in increasingly distracting environments. At the same time, he loves his trainers with his vast capacity for joy and loves to please them. Stewie has a natural shepherd stranger danger focus around strangers requiring an experienced handler whom he trusts at which time he'll cede those decisions to his handler.  With his intelligence, eagerness to please those he loves, and love of treats, it's been lovely to watch Stewie heal from the repair of his fractured leg that required months of crate confinement, followed by rehab, and the vitality of a young shepherd who finally could run and play and join his multiple foster families (he had four during his crate confinement) in long walks, play with the resident shepherds and learn to swim with them, then evolve into a potential candidate for Dock Diving since he loves to leap into the water, dunk his head in completely to fetch his toys out of the water.  Suppose you love training your dog, have excellent handling skills to provide structure and experience with shepherds or similar breeds, and are looking for a shepherd to continue developing your dog's obedience skills. In that case, Stewie is ready to be the devoted companion you have been searching for. In return, he would love a steady supply of balls, toys, especially squeaky ones, and many swim opportunities. Stewie's entirely crate and potty trained, has earned the right to sleep free, and shows himself trustworthy while his people are away without being crated. As months have progressed, he's even settled in the car, snoozing on the way to destinations for hours long rides. He's generally a quiet boy in the house, leaving it to his mates to bark at preceived critter prowlers in the yard at night and loud noises in the street.  Stewie enjoys many fruits and vegetables, including blueberries, bananas, oranges, apples, nectarines, cucumbers, and carrots. Generally, he's game to try any food you offer, including fan favorites of pumpkin, cottage cheese, and yogurt, to name a few. He had many filled Kongs, Toppls, and other enrichments during his long crate confinement. A slim and trim boy, Stewie loves his kibble and eats his meals with the resident dogs, sitting for his meals before eating from his bowl. Before heading to Canine Purpose for training, Stewie generally could honor sit, down, stay, leave it, come, wait, in bed, hop in, no.  Those skills were further refined during his training.  Stewie also started the initial stages of NACSW nosework training for enrichment during his long healing process. He enjoyed finding treats and kibble in boxes and other containers and on natural lawn objects like rocks, tree limbs, and lawn furniture.  We are grateful to UCDVMTH's Fracture Program for Rescues for allowing us the opportunity to repair his leg and to the shelter vet who brought his case to the attention of this program to avoid amputating his leg. Despite the pain of his fractured tibia at the ER and in the shelter, he was such a good-natured boy.  Stewie's care meant coordination amongst an extensive team, beginning with the ER staff at the hospital that treated him immediately after being hit by a car, the shelter vet and staff when he was surrendered for lack of funds to repair his leg, UCDVMTH veterinarians, and staff, and our rescue volunteers managing many details regarding transportation, medications, surgery and follow up visits including rehab consult with Integrative Medicine to develop the plan to ease him into full use of his leg.  All accomplished, a success story for everyone involved, including his multiple primary and relief foster homes, who have loved and cared for him.  Stewie is an active, energetic, and, at times, handful shepherd, so he'll thrive in a home where he can enjoy regular exercise and play. He'll be a great companion for someone who enjoys outdoor activities like hiking. He's loved hiking in Tahoe and is happy to put in four-plus miles on trails. He lives with multiple resident shepherds, adores the foster puppies who come through his foster home including them in play with his balls and mouthy games that go on forever, and has a couple of BFFs at Canine Purpose who match his play style. Stewie can be pushy/rude  in play and if paired with another dog will need a neutral dog as a companion. His current mates are very dog savvy, he respects the older dogs and plays well with the younger ones. Stewie has been adopted twice by folks who found his looks captivating, fell in love with and yet returned him within weeks before he could settle. They admitted to overlooking his true shepherd personality and guidance from his foster families and trainers. If you're interested in Stewie, please note that his fosters will be very selective after Stewie's two adoption experiences and will want to meet multiple times including with his trainers before commiting to launch Stewie to a forever home. He is very loved and would remain with his foster families permanently except one frequently travels for work and the other is at the permanent dog limit set by their animal control jurisdiction.  Take advantage of this opportunity to see if you are a match for this beautiful shepherd. Please select the adopt button and fill out an application for us to connect about Stewie.  As a foster-based rescue, ShepHeroes is always in need of fosters. An overwhelming number of shepherds in our local shelters need our help for a fresh start. Would you be willing to share your home and part of your summer to help shepherds find new families? You provide the love, and we’ll provide everything else! Saying “yes” today truly saves a life. Complete this  https://www.shepheroes.org/foster-form, and we’ll be in touch ASAP! Story
Otte's a lovely four-month-oldish sable shepherd puppy bursting with energy and charm! This sweet boy loves people and gets along beautifully with other dogs. He has lived the dream on three acres, where he romped and explored the yard with the senior resident shepherd after spending the day at the office with his foster mom, charming everyone he met. Always ready for love and belly rubs, he was a favorite, with people volunteering to run him out for potty breaks. He mastered daily car rides, riding in the elevator at work, and out potty throughout the day. He learned all about chickens, horses, and all the other critters, including the resident cats, in addition to good household manners and potty and crate training.  He was a favorite at the vet office, where he got a great checkup, cuddled on laps, and kissed the vet staff while getting his vaccines. He was also adored during his next stay at the vet for his neuter.  Otte is currently living in his second foster home, as his first one was only available for a limited time due to their travel plans. At his current foster home, Otte lives with two cats whom he respects and two resident dogs who are delighted with him. They run with him to stretch his legs and play tug to keep him entertained.  Otte is a brave little guy who walks over things, through things, and surfaces without a pause, sniffing to his heart's content. At first, Otte thought a leash on him was like lava, but he quickly mastered being on a leash, sitting, down, leave it, come (like the wind), and other great manners, including that "ack" sound when humans can't get the words out to say stop it. He knows the command "curb" and sits at the curb on his daily walks to the park to play on the playground equipment and meet more fans. Otte walks 2-3 miles daily for exercise. His foster family is very training-oriented, and all pups fostered by them have a terrific start as pups.  Otte, a pro with the doggie door, joins the resident female Anatolian shepherd in alerting strangers from the window in the fence. And then meets everyone with the happiest, wiggliest body with some exuberant gallops thrown in if outside.  Otte sleeps through the night in his crate, slumbering away for about seven hours. He's completely potty trained, choosing his spot behind the yard tree for privacy. Otte is also crate-trained and completely comfortable being crated. Otte loves his food and his carrots as treats is very treat-motivated and is happy to please his people.  Otte's littermate, Amelia, nicknamed Millie, has been thriving in her shepherd-experienced foster home, living with an adult shepherd. She was adopted this weekend, and we're excited to match Otte to his forever family, too.  We ask adopters interested in Otte to have experience with shepherds or similar herding or working breeds and the time and resources to commit to lots of love, structure, environmental exposure, and training. Story
Welcome Astro, our adorable 13-week-old German Shepherd puppy! We’re thrilled to have this little bundle of joy join our rescue family. We received a call from the shelter the day after Christmas, urgently needing a foster home for him. At just 8 plus pounds, Astro is tiny and perfect in every way! His delicate age made him vulnerable to germs in the municipal shelter, and we couldn’t let that happen. Our dedicated volunteers sprang into action, and within a couple of hours, we delivered him to his loving foster home to complete his shelter-hold period.  On New Year's Eve, Astro officially became a Shepheroes dog, starting his journey to find his forever home. He’s playful and ready to fill your life with joy. Let’s give Astro the loving home he deserves! This little tike settles quickly in his pen, napping, playing, and napping again. A fearless little guy, he follows his people around and adores the resident dogs who guide him. He's been getting stroller rides when his people head out for walks and is mastering sleeping through the night with a couple of quick potty breaks.  Astro is a very self-assured little guy who efficiently soothes himself by playing with his toys in his pen and sleeps through the night except for pee breaks. He always has a pee to give when taken outside and has not had a single poop accident inside after the first couple of days in our care. He will put up a very loud fuss in his pen if he has to poop and has an apparent circling effort by the backyard door when free roaming in the house. Astro adores his food, eating his three meals with gusto. A puppy piranha, he's been learning to re-direct those sharp teeth away from human skin and has begun to shed his first set of teeth, making him carry a toy practically all the time in his mouth to ease those achy teeth.  He's started redirecting his teeth to charger cords and other lower-level goodies, requiring more diligent eyes when he gets quiet, if not in his pen. As a growing puppy, he loves his alone time, catching up on puppy sleep, and will put himself in his pen bed on his own. Although he loves his people and the resident dogs, Astro is not a cuddler and gets grouchy when he needs sleep, just like a toddler. He prefers hanging out next to you or keeping you in his eyesight and will object to too much cuddling, letting you know you're pushing his boundaries.  A brave little guy, Astro loves exploring the yard, the garage, and all the nooks and crannies of the house. He's mastered steps easily and getting squashed when he's underfoot of the resident dogs when they're playing and shakes it off to join the fun again. Astro knows his name and will come running when called. He also enjoys bringing his toys back when tossed, effectively learning fetch. He's unperturbed by robots or regular vacuums and the hubbub of a busy household.  Astro recently took a road trip to Tahoe, easily riding in the car and exploring the new snowy environment. He took the trip in stride and enjoyed hanging out with everyone and all the new smells and the cold weather.  Astro also loves to talk to the resident dogs and his humans, asking for play or attention. The resident dogs adore him and tolerate his shenanigans before correcting him. Izzy has joined Astro in his foster home for the week; both puppies loved hanging out together since they're interested in many of the same smells, toys and discovering treasures. Have you visited our YouTube channel? We would love your support by subscribing to our channel and liking and commenting on the videos we share of our adoptable shepherds in action.  Astro is still very young and will need a forever home supporting such a young pup with companionship, consistency, and positive training. Puppies this age cannot be home alone for more than a few hours at a time. This charming young lad will likely have a strong personality as an adult dog and will do best with an experienced adopter.  As a foster-based rescue, ShepHeroes is always in need of fosters.
