Story
I’m Flossie! I'm a super sweet and affectionate 7-year-old Bichon Frise, and I'm on the lookout for my forever home or temporary foster home. At just 10 pounds, I'm the perfect little companion, always ready to snuggle up and give you lots of kisses. I might be a tiny bit timid at first, but don't worry – I warm up quickly and will be your best friend in no time. I was rescued from a puppy mill, so I'm still getting used to the wonderful world outside of that place, but I can't wait to experience it all with you. I've got some exciting news – I'm scheduled for a spay soon, and I'll also be getting a dental to make sure my teeth are in perfect shape. Despite everything, I'm a happy little girl who loves to spread joy wherever I go. My gentle nature makes me great with everyone, and I promise to bring lots of love and happiness into your life. I'm really looking forward to a fresh start and can't wait to meet my new family! To Adopt (or foster-to-adopt), please complete the adoption application here: https://anewchancear.org/adopt/adoption-application To Foster, please complete the foster application here: https://anewchancear.org/foster/fostering-application/ Thank you so much for your interest in adopting a dog from A New Chance Animal Rescue (https://anewchancear.org). We are a 501c3, tax deductible organization. ANCAR is a foster-based rescue, and we adopt within a 90 mile radius of Bedford Hills, NY. You will find the adoption application here: (https://anewchancear.org/adopt/adoption-application/). All fields on the application must be completed. Please read about the adoption process (https://www.anewchancear.org/adopt/our-adoption-process/) so you'll know what to expect when you submit. Our dogs are in foster care and we do NOT have a shelter or boarding facility. AN APPLICATION MUST BE COMPLETED IN FULL AND APPROVED BEFORE A DOG CAN BE MET. This is a firm policy. Our busy volunteers are not able to respond to questions about the dog or dog meeting requests in the absence of an application. We know these dogs very well because they are in foster care. Please read the profiles of the dog(s) you are interested in prior to submitting an application. If there are specific requirements stated (ie: Fenced Yard or Canine Friend Required) these are included because they are vital to the happiness, health, safety and adoption success of that dog. We are only able to save as many dogs as we have foster homes (https://www.anewchancear.org/foster/faqs/) and resources for. We provide medical care including vaccinations, testing, deworming, spaying/neutering and microchipping before transporting our dogs. We provide all supplies, preventatives and any follow up vet care necessary while they are in foster care. These costs are high and the number of lives we can save is entirely dependent upon donations from people like you. We do not receive funding from private foundations or government sources. If you can find room in your heart to help us, with any amount, we are truly grateful (https://www.anewchancear.org/help/donate/). We are a 501c3 organization, so all donations are tax-deductible. It is only through the kindness of supporters like you that we are 'changing lives...one tail at a time' by providing our dogs with 'A New Chance.' (https://anewchancear.org) Thanks so much.

Story
Meet Mr. Scout! This almost 3 year old 13lbs mix is another of the 10 skittish but sweet little dogs we took in from a home who ended up with too many dogs due to lack of spay/neuter 🤦‍♀️ He’s warming up and looking to bond to someone, taking treats, and following his new and old doggie friends around learning from them. He looks like a bichon/poodle type mix but these dogs are all said to be a mix of doxie, poodle, Shih tzu, and some kind of terrier 🤷‍♀️. All look different, even some littermates don’t even look related! He is much more comfortable around other dogs due to his past and will need a quiet adult only home with at least one other doggie friend already in the home to help him adjust. Email njwoof@cs.com to meet Mr Scout in Northern NJ Since COVID-19, we are no longer holding our Sunday adoption events until further notice, but we are scheduling meet and greet appointments with a specific dog or dogs at our meeting spots in Northern NJ. To streamline adoptions, all communication before, during, and after the adoption process is done through email only: we have limited volunteers able to return phone calls. Submit an application from our website www.secondchance.petfinder.com to speed up the adoption process and email any questions to us at njwoof@cs.com. Please check your email regularly for next steps. All our dogs reside in foster care in Northern NJ until adoption and we do not have a central shelter location. We are a small all-volunteer organization focused on rescuing local dogs from area shelters, as well as accepting some surrenders and puppy mill rescues.

Story
Meet one of our newest puppy mill rescues, Millie! This 5 ish year old Bichon girl spend her whole life in cage in an Amish puppymill and is still getting used to the idea that there is a better life out there. She’s timid but sweet and already starting to wag her tail at us, the boldest and most social of the most recent bichon trio we took in. She had an entire pack of Q-Tips’ worth of yeasty debris in her ears and is getting treated for an ear infection as well as a dental, and she’s spayed and updated on shots. She loves other dogs and is a follower, so a home with at least one other more social dog is a must for sure. Housebreaking and leash walking are still foreign concepts and she will need time and patience. She’s 17lbs full grown and ready to start her new life. Email njwoof@cs.com to meet Millie in Northern NJ Since COVID-19, we are no longer holding our Sunday adoption events until further notice, but we are scheduling meet and greet appointments with a specific dog or dogs at our meeting spots in Northern NJ. Story
Alabaster is a skittish but sweet 4 year old bichon boy who loves cuddling with doggie friends and is still learning about the world outside of a cage after being rescued from a puppy mill. He needs a calmer adult home with at least one other small doggie friend to help him feel safe We hate puppy mills, but we love our puppy mill survivors ❤️ Most of our dogs come from local animal control facilities and homes that can’t keep them, but saving puppy mill dogs has always been a big part of our rescue’s mission over the past 20+ years. Since long before it was cool and every rescue and fake scam rescue around started buying up and selling supposed reject tiny mill puppies and flipping them for high adoption fees to make a profit, we have been rescuing and rehabilitating the sad scared semi-feral medically needy retired moms and dads. Our major life goal is to get dogs out of bad situations and into better ones, and few things are worse than puppy mill life, exploited in a cage for years on end with minimal human contact or medical care, just being used as breeding machines. It sounds like some type of dystopian horror story, but puppy mills are very real and common, kept alive by the selfish desire of consumers to be able to get a puppy of any breed or mix they want immediately shipped to them without caring about the consequences for the parents left behind. Some puppy mill rescues might have been treated slightly better than others and come to us in better shape emotionally and medically. But the vast majority of them (and the most challenging yet rewarding to help) come to us semi-feral and scared out of their minds of human touch, clinging to any doggie friend they can find as their only source of joy and security. They all have some challenges to overcome as they learn how to live in homes for the first time. Leash-walks, housebreaking, playing with toys, and cuddling are all foreign and scary concepts, but with time, patience, doggy role models, and the right caring patient people they learn at their own speed. We currently have 7 little non-shedding puppy mill survivors available, all 3-5 years old and varying levels of shyness. All REQUIRE another dog in the household to help them feel safe and have a role model and to look up to and copy (good habits and bad). Email njwoof@cs.com to meet any of our little survivors in northern NJ. If a puppy mill survivor isn’t the right match for you, we have lots of locally rescued dogs who have lived in homes, so please reach out to find a match Since COVID-19, we are no longer holding our Sunday adoption events until further notice, but we are scheduling meet and greet appointments with a specific dog or dogs at our meeting spots in Northern NJ. Story
❗Current location: in a foster home in South Korea❗ Meet Roy! He is such a lovely boy rescued by the Korean team. He was rescued from an illegal puppy mill and shows signs of separation anxiety due to trauma. He needs a family who can spend a lot of time with him. Please become his forever family and give him lots of love and comfort! • Personality: He is an adorable pup full of love and kisses. He loves being around people and even likes to say hi to strangers! Since he loves you a lot, he may get jealous when other dogs are around you. • Housetrained: He usually goes potty outside. • Separation Anxiety: He is usually not a barker, but he has separation anxiety. His foster mom found that he barks when he is alone until his foster mom comes back home. We believe he will get better by getting more training for separation and keeping his composure. • Allergy/Health Issues: None

Story
Meet Choco!! Choco was rescued from an illegal puppy mill by our rescue team. Choco is a sweet, loving and a gentle boy who wants to be loved :) Behaviours from foster home : Choco is a gentle, calm, sweet and a loving boy who will appreciate your love and adore you furever! He loves to meet other doggie friends and he is very kind to them. He is also good with kids and adults. He lives with a cat at his foster home- and he is totally ok with the cat, as well. He is good with bathing and brushing as long as it doesn’t hurt him. He might be scared of loud hair dryer, but he will be ok if a hair dryer isn’t too loud. He is great on his walk. He is also pee-pad trained. He isn’t a big barker and he doesn’t have separation anxiety. His foster mom also said that his energy level is 5 out of 10. He behaves so well even at a vet, he gets compliments from the vets always ☺️ He is not kennel trained yet, but when the foster mom put a treat in his kennel- he goes in to the kennel without any hesitation. He is such a calm, gentle and a very affectionate boy. He would come to you and sit right next to you when you rest. We are hoping to find a loving family who will love him furever. Would you be his loving furever family? :) Allergy/health issues : He doesn’t have any health issues, but he might be allergic to chicken. His tear gets worse when he eats chicken. Other than that- he is a happy and a healthy boy ☺️❤️

Story
Mighty Handsome Milo is our happy offering in the Shih Tzu loving dog world. It is rare to have such a young and healthy male to offer.  He is only 3-4 years old and 14 pounds and came to us as a very raggedy boy that you could not even see his eyes under all the hair.  He was a neglected surrender and we were so happy to take him in and transform his life.  He is the sweetest thing ever and he loves everyone he meets.  Dogs, cats, people, it doesn't matter two legged or four. He just wants to be everyone's friend.  Mighty Handsome Milo has been around kids around 8 yrs old but not toddlers and so we will not consider families with young young children for everyone’s best interest.  He loves to play with other dogs his own size so a playmate would be a plus if you have another small dog. He would like to have a fenced in yard as he likes to roam around the yard and play with his foster roommates.   A constant leash walk might be confining and ultimately no fun!!!! He walks on a leash really well and is crate trained and doing good on his house training. Milo didn't know about steps until he came here and now goes up and down 4 steps to the yard like a pro.  He is adorable and loves to cuddle and give you all the kisses you want in life.  Toys are a favorite pastime to wile away the hours.  Don’t miss this rare offering in a young Shih Tzu who has a good 12+ years to add to your lifetime of loving a dog. If you are interested then please write to us about Critter Cavalry Rescue,  ccrnewengland@gmail.com PLEASE NOTE:  Our dogs are transported from Tennessee to meeting places in the states where we have posted.  Further information about us is given on our Adopt-A-Pet site.  The adoption fees vary and will be provided as well as noted on the application you receive.  Contact us at 615-661-5333 or ccrnewengland@gmail.comAugust 19, 2024, 2:03 pm
