Story
Hiya! My name is CANDY and here is some info about me:
PHYSICAL INFO:
Breed: Black Mouth Cur mix (best guess really!)
Age: Approximately 3 years
Gender: Female
Weight: 35 lbs (16 kg)
Height: 46 cm (paws to top of my head)
Length: 53 cm (head to butt)
Current Location: MEXICO CITY
RESCUE STORY - My Rescuer found me near a carwash in Mexico City. I was in heat, surrounded by stray dogs, and visibly injured. As you can imagine, I was a bit disoriented and in need of some real help! I'm so thankful for my Rescuer who immediately had me checked out, turns out I had been in an accident (hit by a car, we think) and had a partially healed hip fracture and likely a head injury.
Some kind folks banded together and checked me into a special care facility for pups! Here I received the medical and rehabilitation attention needed to get me back into tip-top shape! Today I am a fully recovered, healthy, and happy gal!
TEMPERAMENT - During my recovery I learned to coexist with other dogs, but I can be a bit reactive at first. While I can gain confidence and become more comfortable over time, I am sometimes uncomfortable in social settings. My Rescuers think I would really thrive in a single dog household.
ENERGY LEVEL - Medium - I’m a medium energy gal! At first meet, I can be shy, but over time I become more comfortable and can be friendly and affectionate. I love humans and getting ALLLL the pets! Like in this video! I am so looking forward to finding my forever home, and getting all the love I deserve. Will that be with you?!
GETS ALONG WITH:
Kids – Unknown. I don’t have any known experience around kiddos.
Dogs – Yes, I co-exist with dogs here at the shelter, but I can be a bit guarded. Check out videos of me with other pups here and here.
Cats – No. I would not do well in a home with cats, sorry kitties!
PREY DRIVE - Unknown. I’m not too sure how I’ll react around squirrels/rabbits etc., so my adopter needs to be prepared and willing to train me through these behaviours, should they arise.
TRAINING:
Leash skills – Pretty good, but I will need an adopter who is happy to work with me on my leash manners. A well-fitted harness and some dedicated leash training will help set me up for success! Check out videos of me on a leash here, here, and here!
House trained – Work in progress. Frequent potty breaks and positive reinforcement will help me learn housetraining in my new home :)
HEALTH NOTES:
I am spayed, vaccinated, and microchipped. I will come to Canada with proof of all my vaccines and test records.
I will be tested for Heartworm etc. before flying North.
NOTE: It is not uncommon for rescue dogs to require dental work/cleaning after they are adopted. West Coast Paws does not cover the costs of dental work and/or vet visits. These costs are the financial responsibility of the adopter.
ADOPTION FEE:
My adoption fee is $840.00 CAD including tax (5% GST, 7% PST), which includes my airfare, if a flight volunteer is found directly to Vancouver.
