Story
🐶 🐕 CRUZ Male Border collie mix approximately 4 ½ - 5 years, 40 lbs & AVAILABLE – check out more photos and see the rest of our dogs on our website -- https://norcalbcrescue.org/available-dogs/our-dogs/ 🐕 🐶 Meet CRUZ, a handsome 4 ½ to 5-year-old, 40 pound, smooth-coated black-and-white boy with classic border collie markings. A sweet, happy boy, he immediately takes to people. In fact, his favorite place to be is with people. He needs nothing more than a human to pet him, and a lap in which to drop his head, to be content. He is comfortable and enjoys the outdoors, but CRUZ has a strong drive to be inside where he can be safe, warm (or cool), secure, and near his family. CRUZ can go from content-to-simply-hang-with-his-human to playing a rousing game of fetch in a finger-snap. Most times he will bring the ball back to you and drop it or let you take it from his gentle mouth. And when you tire of tossing, he switches off his BC boy energy and settles back into hang out mode, often joining his foster dad on the outside bench for cuddles and pets.   CRUZ likes toys and sticks, well, really, more like branches, and when our puppy Una was here, he had nonstop fun playing tug with her. He gets along well with all the other dogs in his foster home. Sometimes he can be a little forward in his play, so the temperament of the other dog(s) in his home will matter, though he seems naturally gentler with smaller dogs like our little chihuahua house guest. While he would enjoy the company of another dog, he’d really love to be the only one so he gets all the attention. He has become increasingly interested in the cats, and not in a good way. Cruz will need a cat-free environment. CRUZ has some medical issues. He is mildly incontinent (controlled with medication). CRUZ will also require a low protein diet. We are happy discuss these issues further, and we can even share lab results, particularly if you’d like to discuss with your veterinarian.  CRUZ is smart, having learned to negotiate the doggy door very quickly and to walk nicely on the short leash walks he takes in his foster home. He also enjoys longer walks and could be a good running partner. CRUZ is mostly praise, but also treat motivated, which should make his continued training fun. CRUZ is crate trained. He has made great progress on his housetraining. If you are looking for a devoted companion that loves to be loved on, a fun-loving boy who is a joy to train and play with, and love petting your pup, then please consider giving CRUZ his forever home. CRUZ is micro-chipped, neutered, heartworm negative and on preventative, and up-to-date on vaccinations. If you have an approved Northern California Border Collie Rescue & Adoptions Adoption Application (https://norcalbcrescue.org/adoption/adoption-application/) and wish to inquire about CRUZ, please email us at Adoptions@norcalbcrescue.org. If you have an approved adoption application with Border Collie Rescue of Northern California let us know and we will request it be forwarded to us for consideration. CRUZ is fostering north of Corning in Tehama County, CA.

Story
🐶 🐕 APOLLO Male 6 months, 38 lbs & AVAILABLE – check out more photos and see the rest of our dogs on our website -- https://norcalbcrescue.org/available-dogs/our-dogs/ 🐕 🐶 Say hello to our fun boy Apollo! He a 6-month-old, 38 pound, male Border Collie with beautiful markings, gorgeous big ears and a cute little short tail. Apollo has been a joy to foster over the past few weeks. Apollo loves people and does great when there are visitors at the house. He also plays well with the 3 other dogs at his foster home and is fine sharing food or toys. He sits to receive pets and is quickly learning multiple commands such as “wait,” "sit," “crate,” “come,” and “get back." He walks well on a leash most of the time, but can become distracted, so he will need some additional work on leash training. He is sometimes overstimulated by small dogs and would do best in a home without small dogs. He is interested in cats, but can be easily redirected so he would likely be OK with dog savvy cats. Apollo has shown some interest in balls and toys but is more interested in playing with his dog pals, swimming or interacting with his person. Apollo is a medium-energy young boy who needs plenty of exercise and mental stimulation, but also has an “off-switch” and can settle down with ease. He learns quickly and is easily redirected. He is eager to please his person. He is both treat and praise motivated. Apollo rides quietly in a crate on car rides. He also sleeps quietly through the night in his crate and is OK with being crated during the day if his foster is away. His free time is usually spent outside with his foster brothers and sisters. He is mostly potty trained and has not had any accidents in his crate. Overall, he is a really wonderful and fun dog who will make a great companion for an active family or individual. APOLLO is micro-chipped, neutered, heartworm negative and on preventative, and up-to-date on vaccinations. If you have an approved Northern California Border Collie Rescue & Adoptions Adoption Application (https://norcalbcrescue.org/adoption/adoption-application/) and wish to inquire about APOLLO, please email us at Adoptions@norcalbcrescue.org. If you have an approved adoption application with Border Collie Rescue of Northern California let us know and we will request it be forwarded to us for consideration. APOLLO is fostering in Modesto in Stanislaus County, CA.

Story
🐶 🐕 LEAH Female Border collie mix 4 1/2 months, 20 lbs & AVAILABLE – check out more photos and see the rest of our dogs on our website -- https://norcalbcrescue.org/available-dogs/our-dogs/ 🐕 🐶 Meet Leah, a 4 1/2-month-old, tri-colored beauty, who is ready to take the world by storm. Leah is sweet and spirited, cuddly and crazy energetic, confident and social with everyone she meets and in every situation she's encountered since we've known her. And she is smart as a whip. Quite simply, the world is Leah's oyster. Here are some examples: When Leah was in her original home, she was left in the backyard, undoubtedly bored and lonely. So, she escaped and took herself on a puppa-venture, exploring the surrounding neighborhoods, meeting and greeting new people, and generally having a fine time. Kind people found her and took her to the shelter, where her family might find her. (Happily, the shelter had a foster home, so she spent no time in the shelter proper.) When her owners made the wise decision they couldn't provide the stimulation, level of training, and activity Leah clearly needs, they decided to relinquish her, and she came to us. This is a lot of change for a very young pup, yet Leah didn't show one ounce of concern. Everyone she's met since the minute she left her original home has been her best friend. She went to the vet the day after she arrived in rescue, and she was delighted to be there, never showing worry or fearfulness. She's visited her foster mom's workplace, and all on her own ran up and down the long hallway, going into people's offices to say hello, and then running back to her foster mom to get a toy to show her new friends. She rode the elevator, no problem. She ran up and down a flight of stairs, no problem. She greeted strangers on her walk down the street, running up to them to say "hello." Leah is also confident with other dogs, including the adult dogs in her foster home. They'd tell you that her play is rowdy, and sometimes includes a bit of "herding." Leah loves toys, and plays with them with her foster mom or anyone else who will play with her. She likes to play the "keep away" game when she's asked to bring toys back, so we're working on that. She loves chew toys and tugging, yet has never chewed up her toys or her bedding or anything else. She is both treat and toy-motivated, so both treats and toys will be great tools in her training. Leah picks things up quickly. (For instance, she learned the first day she was in her foster home that she needed to sit to be released from her crate.) She is also fast and very athletic. The combination of her smarts, confidence, and athleticism might make her a good candidate for all kinds of dog sports. When she's finally had enough activity and fun things to do, Leah likes to spend time close to her foster mom, snuggling and cuddling, until the next adventure beckons. Leah is crate-trained and has never had an accident in her foster home. She also rides well in her crate in the car, fussing for the first few minutes and then riding happily to wherever she's getting to go. She also walks on a leash without hesitation, even as she is still learning not to take her foster mom on a walk rather than the other way around. Leah is a marvelous puppy who will thrive in a home that will provide the level of training and stimulation a spirited young border collie girl needs, i.e., outlets for her smarts and energy. She is not a puppy who will be content to go for walks and play ball in the backyard. Rather, she seeks adventures and learning new things with her person. If you think you might be a person who can provide what Leah needs to be the best puppy/dog she can be, let us know what you'd like to do with her and what your plans for her would be. Leah is ready and waiting for her forever home, but not exactly patiently. LEAH is started on her puppy vaccines, wormed, and microchipped. She is also on flea & tick and heartworm prevention. As a condition of puppy adoption, she will need to be spayed when she reaches approximately 6 months (specific time to be determined by your vet). In addition to the adoption fee, puppy adoption requires a $75 spay/neuter deposit. Upon our receiving the spay/neuter certificate from you, the deposit is refunded. If you have an approved Northern California Border Collie Rescue Application (or apply here - https://norcalbcrescue.org/adoption/adoption-application/) and wish to enquire about LEAH, please email us at Adoptions@norcalbcrescue.org. LEAH is being fostered in Orangevale in Sacramento County, CA.

🐶 🐕 FIRESTONE Female Border collie mix approximately 6 months, 26 lbs & AVAILABLE – check out more photos and see the rest of our dogs on our website -- https://norcalbcrescue.org/available-dogs/our-dogs/ 🐕 🐶 Hi. My name is FireStone! I’m a 6 month old Female BC/Aussie mix. I came to rescue with my siblings Toyo, Apollo, and Pirelli. We were found near a tire shop, so we were each named after a brand of tire. I’m mostly black with a white chest peppered with spots. and a long tail. I’m a little on the small side, only 26 lbs, but foster mom says I have a big heart. I love to snuggle with the humans and give lots of kisses. I love to play with my foster brother and sister even though they think I’m silly. I don’t mind one bit if they don’t want to play, because I will find a plush or chew toy to entertain myself. Foster mom says that I’m a very curious little girl and need a lot of stimulation in my day with walks and play since I’m medium/high energy. I love to take naps with my foster mom while she works, but I also like to check out what’s happening in the yard while everyone is busy and I love lying in the sun. I’m curious about meeting people and other dogs, but I haven’t yet encountered one of those kitties that people talk about. I figured out the doggie door very quickly, and I have not had an accident in the house since! Foster mom says I’m officially potty trained. I ride quietly in the car, but my tummy gets upset so it’s not my favorite thing. I’m a fast learner. I will sit for a cookie on demand and will come when called. I’m still working on my manners, but my Foster mom says I will be easy to train since I will do most anything for a treat. I like water and ran through the sprinklers the other day when they came on, and I’d like to try swimming very soon. I am very good in my crate and don’t mind spending time in there while my foster parents are away. I sleep quietly in my crate during the night. If you are looking for a playful, silly cuddler FireStone may be the gal for you. FIRESTONE is micro-chipped, spayed, heartworm negative and on preventative, and up-to-date on vaccinations. If you have an approved Northern California Border Collie Rescue & Adoptions Adoption Application (https://norcalbcrescue.org/adoption/adoption-application/) and wish to inquire about FIRESTONE, please email us at Adoptions@norcalbcrescue.org. If you have an approved adoption application with Border Collie Rescue of Northern California let us know and we will request it be forwarded to us for consideration. FIRESTONE is being fostered in Citrus Heights in Sacramento County, CA.
