Ray is a 6 year old boxer mix that has been at the shelter the longest of any of our dogs. in spite of his age, he still has a lot of energy to run and play.He has completed his training at Jeff City Correctional Center and ready to go! Here are a few things they learned about Ray. He seems to have some vision problems with his right eye. It comes from his difficult past before he came to the shelter. It is best to feed him treats from the left so he can see you clearly and get the treat and not your fingers. He LOVES a good game of fetch, but hates giving up the ball to give back to you. If you show him another ball, though, he will release the first one. He does enjoy attention and affection and readily gives affection back. He is good with people and dogs, but needs to learn to trust and take some time to warm up to strangers and new dogs. Once he does warm up, he is very attentive. Information: Boston was brought to the shelter as a stray so little is known about him at this time. He has been a little nervous while here but seems to be a very sweet boy. He came in with Brooklyn. Boston has a Grade 2 out of 6 heart murmur What is a heart murmur? A heart murmur is an abnormal sound heard when listening to a heartbeat with a stethoscope. Normally, two distinct sounds are heard when listening to the heart of a normal dog or cat. These are often described as lub and dub. Murmurs most commonly occur between the lub and the dub and have a shooshing or whooshing quality. What does it mean for the animals health? It's difficult to say by just hearing a murmur, as it's only a hint that something may be wrong, not a final diagnosis. Hearing a murmur is reason to consider more discussion and tests to determine the cause of the murmur. Knowing the diagnosis and severity of the cause of the murmur allows your veterinarian to provide you with a prognosis regarding how this heart problem may affect your pet in the future. Hearing a murmur is not a reason to panic. Many dogs and cats with murmurs live normal lives and never need any treatment for heart disease. But the only way to know for certain is to work with your veterinarian to determine the cause, and severity of the cause, of the murmur. No diagnostics other than a physical exam have been performed on this animal, and it's the adopters responsibility to follow-up with their Veterinarian regarding any further diagnostics. This animal has been deemed apparently healthy, and the murmur does not appear to be a serious health risk. What is a benign or innocent murmur? Some heart murmurs are called benign (or innocent), meaning there is no apparent heart disease that explains the murmur. These murmurs are often seen in puppies, and can occur in cats of any age. They are uncommon in adult dogs. Benign murmurs are usually soft and can be intermittent. Benign puppy murmurs will generally disappear by 12 to 15 weeks of age. Murmurs associated with anemia or excitement are also considered benign murmurs. What is a congenital murmur vs. an acquired murmur? A congenital murmur is a murmur in a pet that is present from birth (or near birth). Congenital murmurs are associated with heart defects that the pet was born with. However, some congenital murmurs may be missed in puppies or kittens and only detected later in life. An acquired murmur is a murmur that a pet acquires during their life. These can be benign, but more often (especially in dogs) are associated with developing heart or valve disease. How is a murmur treated? The murmur itself is not treated. The underlying cause of the murmur may or may not be treated - this depends on the cause, severity, and other circumstances (age, well-being of the pet, cost of treatment etc). Your veterinarian is best suited to discuss specific treatment options with you. The shelter provides a 5-day health guarantee for adopted animals. This includes health conditions not present or known about by the shelter at the of adoption, which adopter becomes aware of within 5 days. Injuries or accidents that occur at the adopter's home are not covered. The shelter is not responsible for incurred costs from local veterinarians due to non-compliance. ALL adoptions are final! Animals can be returned to the shelter for any reason, however, there are NO refunds or exchanges.

My name is Dorito. I was found in the back of a hot Uhaul with a family in a bad situation. I was with 7 of my littermates and wasn’t enjoying life. I’m now living with my foster family and I have a full belly, a big yard, and am healthy! I am neutered, UTD on vaccinations, and am really enjoying all of the love and attention. I am 29 pounds, so kind of a small boy. I walk gently on a leash, I like to play but also like to lounge, and will do well in almost any environment. I could be happy with kids and a young family, or would make a great companion for a well-seasoned adult! I am easy to bathe and groom, and I am just happy if you spend time with me. I am located in Southwest MO, and my foster family is willing to travel within reason for my forever home!

Buddy is a four year old, 70lbs pit mix. He just passed his two yearanniversary with us. He was originally found as a stray and his finder saidhe would have loved to have kept Buddy Unfortunately, he and the existing dogdidn't get along. So, he brought Buddy to the shelter. When we hadposted Buddy on social media, Buddy's original owners came forward. Theyshared a video of Buddy playing with a young child, blowing bubbles andpopping them. Sadly, his original owner never came for him. Buddy has spurts of high energy and loves to play tug-of-war. When walking with a leash, he pulls at first, then settles down to a loose leash. He keeps his kennel clean. Buddy would probably do best with a higher energy family, one that likes to take walks and go for runs. He loves exercise.
